Restore Corps

This morning, Restore Corps joined MSCS Project Stand for their “Ignite Your Impact” Student Leadership Conference, connecting with 350 students from high schools across the district!

Students spent the morning learning about leadership and exploring ways to create positive change in their schools.

We loved seeing students so engaged, asking questions and connecting with resources in our city.

Prevention work is necessary. It means equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to recognize unsafe situations, respond when they encounter dangerous people, and support their peers.

When we invest in youth and give them the resources to navigate challenges, we help build a safer, stronger Memphis!

We’re always grateful for opportunities like these to connect with young people and remind them that they have a voice, and it’s powerful.

This morning, Restore Corps joined the Memphis Area Women's Council for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes at Handy Park in downtown Memphis.

We walked to stand with survivors and raise awareness in the fight to end r**e, sexual assault, and gender-based violence.

While human trafficking, domestic violence, r**e, and sexual assault are distinct forms of violence, there is so much intersection between them. Today, we walked for survivors of all kinds, including the survivors we have the privilege of walking alongside every day.

Since 2014, Restore Corps has hosted Lives Worth Saving (LWS), a prostitution diversion program connecting individuals impacted by exploitation with resources and pathways toward restoration.

We hosted our September class on 9/10 alongside our incredible community partners and speakers who shared knowledge and encouragement with the participants. We’re so grateful for everyone who continues to make this work possible!

We’re incredibly proud of the work Rachel has done to support survivors of human trafficking and strengthen the way our community responds to exploitation. Her vision and commitment to survivors continue to make a lasting impact in Memphis and beyond.

Congrats Rachel! We’re glad to have you leading us as we run to the battle together.

Restore Corps by Freed Life is excited to introduce our new Board Member, H. Montgomery Martin!

Montgomery is the Founder & former President/CEO of Montgomery Martin Contractors, LLC and brings more than 40 years of building construction experience to our board. He has been part of projects across Memphis including the Pyramid, Kroc Center, and more recently, the Metal Museum’s relocation and renovation of Rust Hall in Overton Park.

In his current role, Mr. Martin works with MMC’s executive team to strengthen business development goals and maintain current client relations.

Last month, our team got to see Montgomery live out one of our ‘Corps’ Values’, “Run to the Battle,” while attending our Lives Worth Saving prostitution diversion class. He joined the class to better understand Restore Corps’ work and exploitation, when a participants car was unexpectedly towed during class. Montgomery and our CEO, Rachel Haaga, chased down the tow truck to advocate for the participant and explain how the car being towed created a barrier to the purpose of the class. Thankfully, Paul & Crew Towing and A Ladies Wrecker Services were gracious and understanding. They released the car before class even dismissed!

We are thrilled to welcome Montgomery to our team and know that his experience in creating safe spaces for people to flourish and his willingness to run to the battle will be a tremendous asset to our organization and the survivors we serve.

Restore Corps by Freed Life is excited to introduce our new Board Member Dr. Charlotte Freeman, Ph.D.!

Dr. Freeman joined our board in July, but she is no stranger to Restore Corps and has been an active volunteer over the past couple of years.

Through her professional work at Nia Therapy Services, Charlotte provides trauma-informed mental health care and offers support to individuals as they navigate healing and life after trauma.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Freeman to our team and know that her clinical experience and commitment to others will be a tremendous asset to our organization and the survivors we serve.

Restore Corps was honored to join MSCS Project Stand for their Red Sand Project with 11th grade students at GW Carver High School.

Students heard from Restore Corps Regional Care Coordinator, C’Mon Price; MPD’s ICAC Unit, One More Child, and the TN State Health Department’s SPARK Program about human trafficking, online safety, prevention, and ways to keep themselves and their peers safe.

We loved getting to have conversations with students and answer questions about human trafficking. We wrapped up by pouring red sand into the cracks outside, symbolizing those who fall through the cracks and are exploited.

So grateful to be part of this powerful ‘art-ivism’.
