A top notch R & D program, along with stringent product quality is the key to achieving this goal year after year. Kelly Davis, the founder of Performance Distributors (Steve’s father), designed the industry’s first H.E.I. Kelly, who had a background in drag racing and hot rodding, mastered the science (and art) of setting advance curves. This unique science was passed on to Steve, and the company is now the most respected in the world for their advance curve technology. The D.U.I.-Davis Unified Ignition is the flagship product, and is ran on vehicles worldwide. Because we design our ignition systems as if we were running them in our own vehicles, quality, performance and reliability are the end result. Pat Davis, Vice President of Performance Distributors (Steve’s Mom), oversees personnel, assists with strategic decisions, names new products, works trade shows, etc. In the early days of the company, she oversaw shipping and invoicing. Pat and Steve insist on quality products, hard work and treating customers fairly. Every distributor is hand-built, calibrated on a distributor machine, and test fired before being shipped. This process leads to customer satisfaction while making us proud to place our family name on our products! Providing you with more power, torque, and efficiency is what we do – NOT just to ignite a spark. Thorough testing not only leads to a quality and durable product, but it also results in a product you can enjoy running in your car, truck, hot rod, boat or race car. Just an old panel truck—-NO‼️ Billy Stanley , Elvis strip brother, tells us about it :
“A friend asked me to post a photo of the panel truck Elvis had and share a story about it. This isn't the actual truck, but it looked just like it.
It was a 1948 Chevy panel truck, and it was one of Elvis' favorite vehicles. He had it completely restored, and when it was finished, it looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor.
After it was restored, nobody drove it except Elvis and me.
I once asked Elvis why he liked that old panel truck so much. He told me, "When I'm feeling nostalgic, I like to take it for a ride. It brings back fond memories for me."
Elvis and I rode around Memphis in that truck several times. On those drives, he would tell me stories about his life before he became famous. We'd ride around, talk, and sometimes pass places that brought back memories for him. I mostly listened and enjoyed hearing him tell me about those days.
Those rides are memories I've never forgotten.
I always felt honored that Elvis trusted me enough to let me drive that truck whenever I wanted. I knew how much he loved it, but more importantly, I knew what it meant to him.
To most people, it was just an old Chevy panel truck.
To Elvis, it was a way to take a little ride back in time.”
By the way, this truck had a straight in line 6 cylinder Chevy engine(we build a DUI distributor for that application and many others, of course )

I meant to post this back in May when Speedway IllustratedSpeedway published their Mother’s Day issue. They were nice enough to feature my mom and myself in a little write up and even customized our ad in their magazine as being a “Mom Run Business” ! And thanks for mentioning my dad who started our business ! Karl Fredrickson , publisher of Speedway Illustrated magazine, had a cool idea 🏁🏁🏁
