The largest state-funded higher education capital investment in Tennessee history, the building will change how we train physicians and other health care professionals, and it stands to have a major impact on health outcomes across the state.

Established in 2025 through a $12 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Health, the Tennessee Rural Health Care Center of Excellence has the primary role of distributing and administering grants that support homegrown solutions to health issues specific to rural areas.

In its first round of awards totaling $1.75 million, the Center of Excellence announced seven grants that support community efforts to transform healthcare in rural communities state-wide.

On the fourth Saturday of every month, a parking lot on Martin Luther King Avenue fills with cars, volunteers and boxes of food. What began in 2020 as a contactless workaround during the pandemic is now a monthly mobile food pantry run by the St. Patrick Champion Community Outreach Center, which reaches 20,000 people a year across Memphis. UT Health Sciences has sponsored the pantry since the beginning, and Eugene Mangiante, MD, who spent more than four decades in the operating room, now directs the center in his retirement.

It is Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and the college is so excited to welcome our ninth group of nurses to the Sickle Cell Boot Camp for Nursing Excellence next week! The picture shared here is of our 2025 group.
