Yesterday, AFSCME Local 1733 members stood with the Shelby County Deputy Sheriffs Association and County Commissioner Billingsly at a press conference to address the ongoing HVAC issues and heat index. We are demanding for the County Mayor to restore A/C to the county jail on 201 Poplar and protect county workers and inmates. 201 Poplar has not had working A/C for over a month— and 5 county workers have been treated for heat related injuries already.

County jail employees are essential, and so is their safety. We demand safety NOW.

Union moms do it all: raise families, care for others and fight for dignity on the job. This Mother’s Day, we honor the working mothers who never stop showing up for their loved ones, coworkers and communities.

Today we remember and honor those who gave everything in service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
