Replica Lost Eden. First impressions.

Candy apple up top, Vanilla in the heart and Oud holding it down at the base. Sweet, dark and a little dangerous.

Right now the apple is the star. Glossy and candied, not crisp. The oud stops it getting sugary and gives it some bite.

The presentation is unreal. A chrome apple in the box? Margiela understood the assignment.

This is a first sniff, not a verdict. Full review coming once I’ve lived in it. Wear time, projection, the lot.

Raqm, A Fresh and salty is the lane, and it stays in it. Sea salt, ginger, seaweed, vetiver, cedar, oakmoss. No sugar, no florals, no fruit pretending to be an ocean. That’s rare in Middle Eastern perfumery, where everything usually arrives wrapped in vanilla.

My honest take: this is a clean girl, shower fresh, “I have my life together” scent. Safe? Slightly. Boring? No. The oakmoss and vetiver give it a spine, so it won’t smell like a generic aquatic.

The catch is that salty soap lovers will adore it, and gourmand girlies will find it too clean. I’d call it a strong blind buy safe one if you like Le Sel d’Issey or Wood Sage & Sea Salt, and a skip if you want a scent that announces itself.

Spiced Honey & Oud: warm, sticky, cosy. Basically a hug in a bottle.
