Calling all Merced County student artists!
Know a talented high school artist in grades 9–12? Encourage them to share their creativity in the 2026 Merced County Art Contest!
Students can submit an original artwork inspired by Agriculture, Water, Nature, or Cityscape for a chance to have their work displayed at the Merced County Administration Building and be recognized by the Board of Supervisors.
Deadline: October 9 at 5 p.m.

SANTA FE DRIVE IS MOVING FORWARD!
There’s been a great deal of community interest in the rehabilitation of Santa Fe Drive between Merced and Atwater — and we’re excited to say this important project is moving closer to construction!
Merced County has worked hard to identify funding and put the pieces together to make this project happen. We know how important this road is to our residents, businesses, and everyone who travels between Merced and Atwater.
We anticipate the project to tentatively start in mid to late October.
We are currently awaiting the asphalt, and once it arrives, we’ll be ready to get to work.
The work will be done at night to minimize impacts to the community and keep traffic moving as much as possible during the day.
A big thank you to our partners at MCAG and our cities for working with us to move this project forward.
Better roads. Stronger communities. Getting things done.
We know Santa Fe Drive has been a priority for our community, and we’re proud to help make this long-awaited improvement a reality.

Today, flags at County facilities are flying at half-staff in recognition of Patriot Day.
This day honors the 2,977 people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and we reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice shown in the moments and days that followed.
We will never forget.
Road Work Update:
Crews continued to work on Buhach Road today, a project that involves resurfacing approximately 2.1 miles of roadway from Highway 140 to SP Avenue in the McSwain area.
The next scheduled road improvement project is East Avenue north of Ballico—5 miles from Oakdale Road to the Stanislaus County line, with work expected to begin at the end of the month.
These projects are part of a nearly 29-mile investment in county-maintained roads, funded through a combination of Senate Bill 1, Measure V, and bonds that leverage future road revenue resources.
Construction activities will include roadway preparation, conform grinding, paving, shoulder work, and adjustment of utility covers and survey monuments.
Motorists should expect temporary traffic controls, lane closures, reduced speeds and possible delays within active construction areas. Roads are generally expected to remain open during construction, but impacts will vary depending on the work being performed.
The County encourages motorists to plan ahead, allow additional travel time and use caution when traveling through construction zones.
