Before the new school year begins, we’re excited to help students head back to class feeling confident and “Ready to Learn.”
As students prepare to head back to school, we’re proud to partner with the Milan Institute of Merced and the Merced County Office of Education through the Merced County District Attorney’s Here to Learn program to offer FREE youth and teen haircuts.
The event will be held this Saturday, August, 8, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!

After 40 years in the legal profession, our Chief Deputy District Attorney Thomas Pfeiff is retiring. He is closing an extraordinary chapter of service and dedication to justice.
Thomas Pfeiff started with the Merced County District Attorney’s Office in November of 1991 and worked with our office until August of 1997. After moving to private practice, Chief Pfeiff returned to finish out his job, here at the Merced County District Attorney’s Office in May of 2019.
Throughout his career, he has prosecuted countless cases, mentored attorneys, and helped shape the pursuit of justice in our community. Chief Pfeiff stated in part, “For a lawyer, being a prosecutor is the best job. Your only job is to do the right thing every time, every day, every decision. I am proud that is what I was striving for, our team was striving for, and our office.”
Thank you for your service and your leadership. We wish you a well-deserved retirement filled with happiness, good health, and new adventures. Congratulations on an incredible career!

Today, we recognize and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm of all our interns at the Merced County District Attorney’s Office. Their contributions help support our mission of serving the community and pursuing justice every day.
National Intern Day is also a reminder that internships can be the first step toward a meaningful career in public service. One great example is Deputy District Attorney Jacob Pilkington, who once served as an intern in our office and now proudly serves the people of Merced County as a prosecutor.
We’re proud to invest in the next generation of legal professionals and grateful for the interns who choose to learn, grow, and serve alongside our team.

Tomorrow is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The Merced County District Attorney’s Office stands with victims and survivors of human trafficking.
Human trafficking is a crime that exploits people through force, fraud, or coercion for labor or commercial s*x. It can happen in any community and often hides in plain sight.
Warning signs may include:
Someone who appears controlled by another person.
Individuals who are unable to come and go freely.
Signs of physical abuse, fear, or intimidation.
Report human trafficking to local law enforcement. Together, we can raise awareness, protect vulnerable members of our community, and hold traffickers accountable.

Happy Birthday to our Facility Service Dog, Parker!
Today, Parker celebrates the big 4! Our office made sure he felt the love with plenty of scratches, belly rubs, treats, and he was sung Happy Birthday.
Every day, Parker provides comfort, compassion, and support to victims and survivors during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His calm presence makes a meaningful difference in our community, and we are incredibly grateful for the important work he does.

Defendant sentenced to 37 years in state prison for the death of Armando Partida-Sanchez.
Defendant Anthony Ruben Perez has been sentenced to 37 years in state prison for the death of Armando Partida-Sanchez. The defendant plead no contest to manslaughter and assault with a firearm. At the sentencing hearing, Armando’s family stated in part, “ Armando’s life mattered. He mattered to his family, to his friends, to his children, and to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, generosity, and love will never be forgotten.”
The case was investigated by the Merced Police Department and prosecution led by Deputy District Attorney Natalia Enero.
Selena Bass- Vasquez, 28, of Merced has been charged with murder for the stabbing death of her mother, Michelle Vasquez, 53, also of Merced. The murder is alleged to have occurred July 11, 2026. Bass-Vasquez is charged with 1st degree murder with an enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon.
Bass-Vasquez will be arraigned July, 23, 2026 in the Merced Superior Court.
