Thousands of tons of tire material are burning at a tire facility in Ballico. The potentially toxic smoke can be seen from the plot we farm in Merced.

County Officials warn of the toxic smoke and suggest people stay inside. Outdoor activities should be limited and outdoor workers should protect themselves with a N95 mask.

Thank you to firefighters and first responders who have been battling the burn, now going on three days!

Update: A milestone was met this week! We have officially harvested a ton (2,000 lbs) of food! This year is our “learning year” and I’m excited to see what the future holds as we continue to learn our way around our small scale farming operation and surrounding marketing. Appreciate the encouragement and support from family and friends, especially from my partner’s parents who take the time to mentor us while tending their production. Onward to the fall! 🌱☀️

The Merced city council will be discussing and voting on placing a measure on the November ballot to raise local sales tax by 1 cent (approx $18 million annually).

Last night I embarked on my third year serving on the Merced Multicultural Arts Center - the MAC Board of Directors. We celebrated new board members (Paz Zamora, Stephanie Martinez, Tong Xiong) and 30 Years of the Arts Council at the MAC! Most importantly we recognize the amazing work of Merced AF, Jessica White-Kassouf and a decade of Colton Dennis! Celebrate Arts and Culture, Invest in Merced and Pay Artists!
