UC Merced welcomed the newest cohort of San Joaquin Valley PRIME+ students and their families as they took their first steps toward careers serving the San Joaquin Valley.

Joined by faculty and leaders from UC Merced, the UCSF School of Medicine and UCSF Fresno, students participated in a physician’s oath and mission induction, celebrating their shared commitment to expanding access to care and becoming compassionate, culturally responsive physicians for the communities that shaped them. 💙💛

From UC Merced research to the forefront of consumer sleep science. 🧠💤

We’re proud to see alumna Holly Rus, Ph.D. ’17, putting her UC Merced experience to work to improve health and help people sleep better.

For alumna Holly Rus, Ph.D. ’17, a passion for health psychology and real-world impact has led to a career at the forefront of consumer sleep research. ucm.edu/t57xsx 🧠💤

At UC Merced, she co-authored research on social media's effects on health, worked under mentor Jitske Tiemensma, and was a 2015 Grad Slam runner-up. Today, Dr. Rus bridges science and industry — using research to guide innovation, improve products and enhance people’s health through better sleep. ✨

25 years after the September 11 attacks, we came together to remember every life lost and honor the first responders whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us.

The UC Merced Police Department hosted the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge, bringing together members of the Merced Police Department, local law enforcement agencies and the Bobcat community. Participants climbed 2,071 steps, representing the number of steps in the Twin Towers, in memory of the 72 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters and all those who lost their lives that day.

For 25 years, their stories of heroism, resilience and selfless service have endured. With every step, our community carried their memory forward and reaffirmed our commitment to never forget. 🇺🇲

From UC Merced to the moon? 🚀

More than 30 Bobcats met with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman to talk about the future of space exploration, careers at NASA and the projects they’re already working on, including UC Merced’s first nanosatellite, BOBSat-1. 🛰️

“You couldn’t be growing up and contributing to this adventure at a better time in the history of America’s space program,” said Isaacman.
