Is it too hot for your dog? ☀️🐶

Many people don't realize that heat affects dogs differently depending on their size, breed, age, and health. A temperature that feels comfortable to us can quickly become dangerous for our furry companions.

Flat-faced breeds, puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, and those with heart or respiratory conditions are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness. High humidity, direct sunlight, and exercise can also increase the risk.

Always choose cooler morning or evening hours for walks, provide plenty of fresh water and shade, and keep outdoor activities short on hot days.

Never leave your dog unattended in direct sunlight or inside a parked car. Without shade and fresh water, dogs can overheat quickly. Even with the windows cracked open, a parked car can reach life-threatening temperatures in just minutes.

Watch for signs of overheating, such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. If you suspect heatstroke, move your dog to a cool area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, and seek veterinary care immediately.

A little extra caution can save a life. ❤️

🐾 Paws & Facts: Your dog is out here grazing again. 🌿

You take them outside for a nice walk, and suddenly they drop their head and become a little cow. 🐄🐶

Every dog owner knows this moment, and most of us have wondered: should I be worried?

In most cases, no. Grass eating is completely normal dog behavior. Some dogs do it to soothe an upset stomach. The grass can trigger vomiting and help them feel better. Others simply enjoy the texture or taste, especially in spring when the grass is fresh and green. Some researchers believe dogs instinctively eat grass to add roughage to their diet.

What to watch for: if your dog is eating grass obsessively, seems unwell, or vomits frequently afterward, it's worth a trip to the vet. Also make sure the grass they're munching on hasn't been treated with pesticides or herbicides. 🌿

Tito has found his forever home, and we couldn't be happier! 💖

Like so many of the dogs and cats at our shelter, Tito came from a difficult beginning. Most of our rescues have endured neglect, abuse, starvation, untreated medical conditions, or were simply abandoned when they needed help the most.
Rescuing them is only the beginning. Our greatest hope is to see every one of them leave the shelter and start a new life with a loving family.

Today, Tito's dream came true. 🧡 A heartfelt thank you to his wonderful adopters for opening their hearts and giving him the life he deserves. Every adoption changes a life and creates space for us to rescue another animal in need.

Sadly, many of our dogs have been waiting for years. For some, the shelter has been almost their entire world. If you have the means to adopt, please consider giving a shelter dog or cat the chance they've been waiting for. They deserve a family, a home, and a future filled with love. 🐶🐱

🐾 Paws & Facts: Those kisses mean something! 🥰

Maybe you just came back from lunch. Maybe you've been gone five whole minutes. Either way — your dog greets you with kisses like you've been away for a year. 🐶

Licking starts from day one of a dog's life. Mother dogs lick their puppies to stimulate breathing, keep them clean, and bond with them. That behavior carries forward — when your dog licks you, they're expressing that same deep-rooted connection.

It also feels good for them. Licking releases endorphins that create a sense of calm and comfort, similar to how we might hug someone we love. So in a way, when your dog covers your face in kisses, they're comforting themselves just as much as they're showing you affection.

We are beyond happy to share that our sweet Frijolita has found her forever home! 🐾

She is one of the beautiful miracles who didn't have to spend years waiting at our shelter. She quickly found what every rescued dog deserves—a loving family, a safe home, and a future filled with love.

While we celebrate Frijolita's happy ending, our hearts are with the many dogs still waiting.

Most of our dogs have spent several years in our shelter. Some have spent almost their entire lives waiting for a family to call their own. Many arrived as tiny puppies—abandoned, abused, malnourished, or injured—and have grown up behind shelter walls instead of in loving homes. A shelter is never meant to be a forever home—just a place of rescue for these innocent souls.

Our wish is that Frijolita's story is the first of many more happy endings.

Paws & Facts: Not all wags are the same! 🐕🐾

We always assume a wagging tail means a happy dog — and often it does! But tail wagging is actually a whole language, and once you start paying attention, you'll never look at it the same way again. 🐶

Research has shown that dogs wag more to the right side when they feel positive emotions — like seeing their favorite person. 😍
They wag more to the left when they feel uncertain or anxious. 😟
A slow, low wag can mean insecurity, while a fast wag with a wiggling whole body? That's pure, unfiltered joy. 🤩

Interestingly, other dogs can read these signals too. They naturally pick up on the direction and speed of a wag and respond accordingly — it's a sophisticated communication system that we're only beginning to fully understand.

Next time your dog greets you, take a closer look. They're telling you exactly how they feel. 💙
