I woke up to this…

Our communities can’t keep living in immigration limbo 07/11/2026

https://thehill.com/opinion/immigration/5957153-tps-law-congress-reform/

There’s activism… and then there are solutions.

Five months ago, I wrote about this issue in the Miami Herald. Today, my latest opinion is published in The Hill because this conversation belongs on the national stage.

My writing is meant to generate ideas. If you have a few minutes, I hope you’ll read it and share it.

Then contact your representatives, regardless of party affiliation. Congress created TPS, and Congress must finally fix it.

Let’s replace uncertainty with certainty. It starts with an honest conversation and the willingness to work together.

Our communities can’t keep living in immigration limbo Congress should stop allowing immigration policy to be written through executive orders and court decisions.

Sargassum is a real problem, and we shouldn’t minimize it. It’s affecting our beaches, our environment, our tourism industry, our small businesses, and the jobs that depend on them. I’m already hearing from residents and visitors who are choosing not to come to the beach because of the conditions.

Every year, we spend millions cleaning it up after it reaches our shores instead of investing in ways to prevent it, intercept it, or create value from it. That’s managing the symptom, not solving the problem.

We can’t look at strong Fourth of July crowds or the excitement surrounding the World Cup and assume that will carry us through the rest of the summer. This is a worldwide challenge that requires real solutions.

Other countries, including Mexico, are already taking proactive steps to intercept and contain sargassum before it reaches their beaches. Florida should be studying every successful model while encouraging our universities, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and researchers to help turn this recurring problem into jobs, new industries, and economic opportunity.

I hope leaders at the local, state, and federal levels will join this conversation. Florida has an opportunity to lead, but we need to start acting now.

Technical difficulties yesterday. Better late than never. 🇺🇸

250 Years of the American Way. The American Dream. The Land of Opportunity.

We may have our differences, but one thing is certain: we are all Americans. Children of a nation that has stood strong through every storm, always greater than any one of us, and founded on the enduring right to pursue happiness.

I still believe that beneath the daily noise and political division, we remain united by our principles, our founding ideals, and our love for this country.

I know I am.

God bless America, and God bless us all.

Happy Independence Day.

4 steps Congress must take to end uncertainty for Haitians and Venezuelans on TPS | Opinion 06/28/2026

I represent one of the most diverse districts in the country. Every time there’s another court ruling on TPS, I watch the same predictable cycle unfold: politicians rush to social media, issue statements, blame one another and move on.

Meanwhile, families are left wondering what comes next. Employers are left with uncertainty. Communities are left waiting for answers.

Five months ago, I wrote that Congress needed to stop governing TPS through temporary extensions, executive actions and courtroom battles. The recent Supreme Court ruling only reinforces that message.

We are better than governing through headlines while law-abiding families live in uncertainty.

Congress should finally do its job and pass a durable legislative framework that provides clarity, stability and respect for the rule of law.

What a night for Ecuador. 🇪🇨

Against one of the world’s best teams, La Tri showed heart, grit, and the kind of belief that changes games.

Ecuador is part of my heritage, and I couldn’t be prouder to see this team continue to inspire an entire nation and Ecuadorians around the world.

One more unforgettable chapter written. Now… on to the next one.

¡Vamos Ecuador, carajo! ⚽🇪🇨

P.S. When Cuba is cheering for Ecuador, you know it’s been a good night. 🇪🇨⚽😂

After thousands of arrests, millions of taxpayer dollars, countless outreach contacts, and years of promises, the question remains:

How many people entered treatment?

How many entered permanent housing?

How many remain housed today?

Government should be measured by outcomes, not activity.

The Business Of Homelessness - Miami Independent 06/11/2026

https://miamiindependent.com/business/2026/06/11/the-business-of-homelessness/

Thank you Miami Independent for publishing “THE BUSINESS OF HOMELESSNESS” after it was removed from Miami Community News.

I won’t speculate about why it was taken down weeks after publication, particularly as residents began asking questions and engaging in the discussion; but I do think the public deserves an explanation.

The article raises questions about homelessness policy, taxpayer dollars, government contracts, and public accountability. Those are exactly the conversations a community should be having.

Miami Beach residents deserve transparency. The local ordinance should be repealed. State law should be enforced. Public debate should be encouraged, not avoided.

The question isn’t whether you agree with the article, but rather, WHY IS ANYONE AFRAID OF HAVING THIS DISCUSSION?

THIS LESSON IS BIGGER
THAN MIAMI BEACH

Before asking residents for more taxes, fees, or debt, local governments should pursue every available partnership, grant, and funding opportunity.

Florida can be a strong partner, but accountability and planning must come first.
