The SMX League has reportedly handed down Code of Conduct penalties to several team managers and executives following the heated discussions surrounding the muddy Columbus race.

According to Steve Matthes, the controversy came from a group chat involving top teams, the AMA and SMX League officials — a place where teams could discuss race conditions, officiating and last-minute issues.

Jeremy Coker, Jensen Hendler, Josh Wisenor, Larry Brooks and Dustin Pipes were reportedly among those whose comments were considered “unprofessional.” 👀

And what were they talking about?

The Columbus track conditions, massive costs caused by the mud, and the way the event was handled. 🌧️💰

Some were initially told they could be BANNED from the next event. 😳

Now the final punishment is out…

They’re still allowed to attend — but with RESTRICTED ACCESS.

So apparently, this isn’t simply a case of team managers being punished for “criticizing the track.”

Jensen Hendler, Jeremy Coker, Josh Wisenor, Larry Brooks and Dustin Pipes are facing various access restrictions — including being kept off the race floor and out of the team manager tower. According to Weigandt, some restrictions could reportedly last through the next two rounds. 😳

But here’s where things get REALLY interesting…

The disagreement in Columbus reportedly centered around whether teams should even race the second moto in those conditions.

The teams were concerned about the damage another mud moto could cause — and we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars in equipment. 💸💸

Weigandt says Hendler and Coker even showed him the messages they sent to officials, and he personally didn’t consider them overly aggressive.

So was this really about a couple of texts… or was it the result of tensions that had been building for a while?

Teams had already been warned at the Ironman riders meeting to keep communication with officials professional and constructive.

And then there’s the Charlotte precedent. 👀

Last year, Moto 2 was canceled after lightning delays forced a decision between racing Sunday or calling it. The teams didn’t want to stay another day — and Moto 2 never happened.

So now the question is:

Did that situation accidentally create the idea that a second moto can be negotiated?

Because from the teams’ perspective, destroying expensive equipment in brutal mud conditions is a legitimate concern.

But from the fans’ perspective?

You bought a ticket expecting two motos. You show up. The weather isn’t getting worse. There’s no lightning. There’s daylight.

And then Moto 2 disappears because racing is going to be expensive?

Mud races have been part of motocross forever.

They’re messy. They’re expensive. They’re unpredictable.

But according to Steve Matthes on the PulpMX Show, Star’s search for a replacement isn’t going exactly as planned.

They want a proven 450-level mechanic. The problem? Some experienced factory guys reportedly aren’t interested in trading their current jobs for Star’s demanding workload.

At Star, you’re not just turning wrenches on race day. More weekday work at the Florida facility. More time on the bikes. Then back to the track every weekend.

And that could force Star to look beyond the veteran names they originally wanted. 👀

Imagine landing the job of wrenching for Haiden Deegan… and realizing the hardest part might not be keeping up with the rider. 🛠️😂
