I just spent a week in the scorching sun performing 6 gigs at Burning Nest with my new mobile live looping rave rig. It was good to be back in the fields!!!

Last night’s gig was pretty special. It was a ritual of voice empowerment, to bring us together, use our voices and be loud.
I didn’t know I would finish it in time! I was literally still designing it on the day!!!
And, it was the first time using my very own self-built AI enhanced gesture instrument, so I can live-loop and play some massive bass notes at the wave of my hand.
It started off like an ancient ritual, my hands moving samples of my voice through the air in thousands of tiny fragments.
Then, I sampled the audience and it all became a massive experimental rave, where you can get up on the stage and your movements shape the sound.
I’m documenting my process of building an AI instrument on my livestreams, during performing an interactive concert and tweaking it on the fly to suit my own specs, and I’ve got a massive vision for what’s to come.

I’m performing this Sunday at ‘s Scratch Night, a space for testing new ideas and works in progress.
Last time I played with them, I tried out a new post-species concept: capturing audience voices in the bar, as if they were the final sound ever made at the heat death of the universe, and mixing it with my noise synth.
It made me start asking questions about what we become after the end of the human species, or even after AI and after everything we recognise now.
And then the more grounded question: what can we do now, with the tools we’re building? Instead of using AI to replace human creativity, how do we use it to support and nurture it?
That thinking has led me into building my own AI instrument, something designed for improvisation, connection and collaboration, not replacement.
I’m going to try this out for the first time on sunday.
