Tracking California's wolfpacks through Lassen's backcountry, I got a bonus. My first pronghorn sighting! One of my favorite animals on the American continent, caught by surprise in the sunrise over a California valley.

Still have a whole roll of Kodak Super 8 negative and half a roll of Ektachrome film to burn. Should I bring the Super 8 film camera with me for my Glacier National Park trip? Might be worth bringing!

In one week I'll finally get a chance to visit Glacier National Park for some well earned PTO. Hope you all are ready for an insufferable amount of high country and grizzly content next week! I'm also chasing my first bull moose photos 🤞🏻

The annual fall mullet run is here and with it I had the opportunity to catch some bottlenose dolphin activity in one of our Miami Beach waterways. It was fascinating watching the pods herd the mullet and even teach one of the younger calves!!

Filmed on my Lumix S1RII and Sigma 28-105mm f2.8

Had the most spectacular showing of TWO pods of dolphins here in our Miami Beach waterway. One of the pods had a juvenile they were actively teaching how to hunt mullet! Did the best I could to use my sunglasses as a polarized filter so you could see more of the action underwater.

Another year of life inked in the books. Excited for the next one. Blessed to have many in my life along for the ride.

River otters are the true "swamp doggos" of Florida.

My heart skipped a beat.

We had staked out the treeline and stayed put, glassing a meadow below where a group of cattle grazed in the fading light. This was one of the areas we had mapped as prime wolf operating ground. A natural vantage point above the valley, invisible from the meadow, overlooking open country where prey would have no idea anything was watching.

Then something caught my peripheral.

It was bounding and weaving through the trees about 50 feet to my left. A canid. Moving fast and low between the trunks. My heart rate spiked immediately.

I read the ears and the bounding gait and ran perpendicular, anticipating it would cross the forest floor and continue up the slope. For a moment I genuinely thought this could be a wolf scout working the edge of the herd.

It turned out to be a coyote. A large, curious one sweeping the area the same way we were. It only presented itself for a few seconds before disappearing further into the Lassen forest.

Phase 1 of the Lassen Wolf Project is complete!

Lessons learned from California's most rugged terrain. Nearly 500 miles of surveying and tracking over four days. Tons of habitat and wildlife documented. Planning the next one already.
