It was a great day of action with the SAVE team at the Dolphin Dems GOTV Center in Wilton Manors!

Our team hit the doors across House District 100, connecting with voters and sharing information about Michael Ferguson, who is running for Florida State House District 100 in the November 3 general election.

Bonita Jones-Peabody is a Miami native and attorney with more than 30 years of legal experience serving the South Florida community. Her career includes serving as an Assistant Public Defender, supervising attorney, and Assistant General Counsel for the 11th Judicial Circuit.

Now, Bonita is running for judge with a commitment to bringing fairness, experience, and compassion to the bench. She believes everyone who enters a courtroom deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.

Doll Linkup, Miami’s Girliest Drag Show, is a vibrant platform created by and for trans women, centering trans visibility through weekly drag shows and performance art. Their events create an inclusive space for trans and gender-diverse performers while connecting attendees with LGBTQ-affirming services and resources!

Congratulations to our 2026 Freidin Brown, P.A. & SAVE Social Justice Scholar, Elizabeth “Liz” Ruiz!

Liz is a third-year law student at St. Thomas University College of Law whose experiences as a q***r woman have shaped her commitment to social justice and the kind of lawyer she hopes to become. Her work spans legislative advocacy, community lawyering, and juvenile public defense. As President of the Lambda Law Society, she continues to demonstrate her commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. Liz aspires to practice movement lawyering at the intersection of labor, LGBTQ+ protections, and civil rights, working alongside communities to challenge inequitable systems and build lasting change.

Through the Freidin Brown, P.A. & SAVE Social Justice Scholarships, each of the five recipients will receive $5,000 in support directly to their university. Maxx is the founder and Executive Director of PRISM, a youth-led nonprofit working to expand access to LGBTQ-inclusive education and sexual health resources for young people in South Florida. A champion for young Floridians, Maxx also serves as Board Chair of the Florida Youth Action Fund. Maxx is currently pursuing a Master of Public Policy at the University of Miami, where they are building their knowledge and skills to continue advocating for q***r youth in South Florida and beyond.

JC is an Executive Ed.D. student in Higher Education Leadership at the University of Miami, where their work focuses on student development theory and administrative policy. As a Doctoral Practicum Student at UM’s LGBTQ+ Student Center, JC mentors student leaders, supports the Pride Coalition, assists with campus tabling and event programming, and collaborates with students and staff on proposals for the Creating Change Conference. JC aspires to become a higher education leader dedicated to supporting student advocacy, advancing LGBTQ+ equity, and fostering inclusive campus communities.

Outside of school, Kalani enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with friends and family, and exploring good food. With the support of the SAVE Social Justice Scholarship, Kalani is continuing their education and working toward making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Charles is a 1L at Harvard Law School and previously attended the University of Florida. Before attending HLS, Charles worked in the Florida Legislature as an aide. In 2024, he received a Boren Award to study Turkish and Azerbaijani in Baku and was elected to serve as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He also served as a White House intern in the Office of Presidential Correspondence in 2023. Outside of his studies, Charles enjoys reading, visiting museums, and learning local history.

SAVE had a fantastic time at FOO Society’s Health & Wellness Fair!

It was a great day in South Dade connecting with community members, sharing resources, talking about SAVE’s work, and welcoming new volunteers. We’re grateful to FOO Society Foo Society Non-Profit one of our SAVE Generations partners, for bringing the community together around health, and wellness.

FOO Society is a South Miami-Dade nonprofit founded by Kyya Love in 2019 that supports LGBTQ+ youth and young adults through mentorship, mental wellness, education, life skills, and community connection. Their work continues to create welcoming spaces where young people can access resources, build relationships, and thrive.

Community events like this are an important part of grassroots organizing. Showing up, building relationships, sharing resources, and connecting with our neighbors all help strengthen our community.
