With Miami-Dade County’s FY 2026–27 budget now passed, my priorities remained clear: public safety, infrastructure, our parks, more efficient government, and finding savings for taxpayers.

A sidewalk repair at SW 101st Avenue and 83rd Street has been completed. From identifying an issue to seeing the finished result, we’re continuing to focus on the improvements that matter in our neighborhoods.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives forever changed by September 11, 2001.

At Tropical Park, here in district 10, we came together to honor those we lost, the families who continue to carry their memory, and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Their courage, service, and sacrifice remain a part of our history and a reminder of the strength of our nation.

We will never forget.

I was at the crash site today as our community responded to this tragic incident and took part in a press conference to help keep our residents informed.

Sadly, five lives were lost, and five others were transported to the hospital, including three who remain in critical condition following the incident at Miami International Airport. My deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss tonight.

I am incredibly grateful to the more than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units, law enforcement officers, aviation personnel, and first responders who immediately stepped in and worked tirelessly to save lives and secure the scene.

As Chairman, I will remain closely engaged and continue receiving updates from our emergency response teams and local, state, and federal partners as the investigation continues. We will do everything necessary to support those affected, keep our residents informed, and ensure our community has the resources it needs.

Today marked the first budget meeting for Fiscal Year 2026-2027.

As we move through the budget process, my focus remains on protecting taxpayers, prioritizing public safety and essential services, and finding savings before asking residents to pay more.

I do not support raising fees or taxes, and I will continue working with my colleagues to deliver a responsible budget that puts Miami-Dade residents first.

The final budget hearing will be held September 17.

Sergeant David Cajuso served with the Miami Beach Police Department for 10 years, dedicating his life to protecting others and building trust within the community. His life was tragically cut short, but the impact he made will continue to live on.

The Board of County Commissioners approved the designation of a portion of Southwest 84th Street as Sergeant David Cajuso Way, creating a permanent tribute to his service and sacrifice.

I’m grateful to have spent time with David’s wife, Eileen Cajuso, and to be part of an effort that ensures his name remains part of our community.

David’s life was about service. His legacy will be about remembrance.

Spending time with the family of Deputy Sheriff Devin Matthew Jaramillo is a profound reminder of the life behind the badge and the family who carries his loss every day.

Devin grew up in Kendall, played football at Devon Aire Park, and ultimately returned home to serve and protect the community that raised him. He made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

The Board of County Commissioners approved measures to permanently honor Devin’s legacy by naming a portion of Southwest 132nd Avenue Deputy Sheriff Devin Matthew Jaramillo Way and the football field at Devon Aire Park the Deputy Sheriff Devin Matthew Jaramillo Field, the very field where Devin played as a child.

These tributes are more than names on a road or a field. They are lasting reminders of Devin’s life, his service, and the community he so deeply loved.

His service, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten.
