Last week, I sat in a ballroom with over 1,000 nonprofit leaders, volunteers, and changemakers at the Points of Light Conference in our nation's capital—and I left shaken by what I witnessed.

Points of Light, founded on the belief that "the most powerful force in the world is the individual who has realized their power to do good," gathered us during a poignant moment in our country's history. Every conversation, every session, every connection pointed to the same urgent reality: nonprofits are under unprecedented pressure.

The current administration's policies are creating a funding crisis that threatens the very infrastructure of civil society. When nonprofits can't fund their missions, communities lose access to arts, education, social services, and the connective tissue that holds us together.

But here's what struck me most: the room was full of people who refuse to accept that as the end of the story. They're innovating. They're organizing. They're fighting for their missions with everything they have.

This is a threat to democracy itself. Democracy depends on a thriving civil society—on nonprofits doing the work that government can't or won't do. When we defund the sector, we weaken the very foundation of our democratic institutions.
