Geek Squad Email Scam (Phishing Email Scams) | Stay Safe Online, Scam Awareness and Prevention - Did you receive a Geek Squad email claiming your subscription, antivirus protection, or membership was automatically renewed? Be careful. It could be a Geek Squad scam email designed to scare you into calling a fake customer support number.
In this video, Jared Caldara, Founder of ScamAware101, breaks down the Geek Squad email scam, one of the common fake invoice and tech support scams targeting consumers. These emails may claim that hundreds of dollars have already been charged to your account for a Geek Squad subscription or renewal you never purchased.
The goal is to make you panic and call the phone number in the email to cancel the supposed charge. But the phone number doesn't connect you with Geek Squad. It connects you with scammers who may impersonate customer support representatives and attempt to steal your money, personal information, banking information, passwords, or access to your computer.
We'll examine how the Geek Squad renewal scam works, the warning signs of a fake Geek Squad email, why scammers use fake invoices and unauthorized charges, and what you should do if one of these messages appears in your inbox.
IMPORTANT: Don't call a phone number contained in a suspicious email, invoice, text message, or pop-up. If you're concerned about a purchase or subscription, independently visit the company's official website or contact the company using a phone number you know is legitimate.
Scammers frequently impersonate well-known companies and brands because people recognize and trust them. Geek Squad and Best Buy are just two names that can be impersonated in phishing emails, fake renewal notices, refund scams, and tech support scams.
Learn how these scams work before you encounter one.

π¨ Scam Alert: Wrong Number Scams
https://www.scamaware101.com/scams/wrong-number-scams/
A "Wrong Number" scam begins when a scammer sends a text message that appears to be intended for someone else. The message may look casual, polite, or accidental, such as asking about dinner plans, a meeting, a delivery, or whether the recipient is a specific person. When the recipient replies to say the sender has the wrong number, the scammer tries to continue the conversation. Over time, the scammer builds trust, often by acting friendly, attractive, successful, lonely, or interested in a new friendship. The conversation may slowly move toward romance, investment advice, cryptocurrency, fake business opportunities, or requests for money. The scam works because it starts with a harmless-looking mistake and then develops into a longer manipulation campaign.
ScamAware101 shares real-world scam examples and practical prevention tips to help you and your loved ones stay safe.
