Five minutes of play can mean more than you think.
For babies and young children, play is how they explore, connect and learn. When you roll a ball back and forth, stack blocks, play peek-a-boo or sing a favorite family song, you’re doing more than having fun together.
You’re giving your child opportunities to practice communication, problem-solving, taking turns and other skills that support healthy development.
And meaningful play doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.
Try five minutes together:
• Stack blocks and knock them down.
• Roll or toss a ball back and forth.
• Blow bubbles and watch your child follow them.
• Play peek-a-boo or “I Spy.”
• Take a walk and talk about what you see.
• Sing a favorite song from your family or culture.
Follow your child’s lead. Respond to what they do. Take turns. Laugh together.
Play is learning, and your time and attention are some of the best things you can give your child.

More than 80 volunteers rolled up their sleeves this Saturday to transform Miami-Dade County’s Edison No Wrong Door Community Resource Center, creating a more welcoming and uplifting environment for the children, families, older adults and residents who rely on the facility for services and support.
The community beautification project brought together United Way Miami, City National Bank, and the Miami-Dade County Community Services Department (CSD) for a day of service focused on improving the facility and its Adult Day Care Center.
Volunteers enhanced indoor and outdoor spaces, by creating a flower garden and ,shaded areas, completing landscaping, adding plants and mulch around the facility’s perimeter, murals and special touches to the Adult Day Care Center.
