๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’Š **BUTE vs. BANAMINE: WHICH ONE WHEN?**

Theyโ€™re probably two of the best known medications in the horse world. Both relieve pain and inflammation, but they arenโ€™t necessarily the first choice for the same problems.

Hereโ€™s an easy barn trick for remembering the difference:
๐Ÿฆด BUTE = BONES, JOINTS & FEET
๐Ÿคข BANAMINE = BELLY & FEVER

๐Ÿฆด BUTE | Phenylbutazone: Think musculoskeletal pain and inflammation. Bute is commonly used for things like arthritis, hoof pain, laminitis, strains, soreness, and other causes of lameness. If your horse hurts when he MOVES, your veterinarian may reach for BUTE.

๐Ÿคข BANAMINE | Flunixin Meglumine: Think visceral pain, meaning pain coming from the internal organs. Banamine is especially useful for **colic and abdominal pain** and is also commonly used for fever and inflammation associated with systemic illness. If your horse hurts in his GUT, your veterinarian may reach for BANAMINE.

๐Ÿด BUT WAIT...
Bute doesn't have a GPS programmed for the legs, and Banamine doesn't magically drive straight to the intestines. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Both are systemic NSAIDs, and both can reduce pain and inflammation throughout the body. Thereโ€™s plenty of overlap. The difference is that each has situations where veterinary evidence and experience make it a more logical first choice.

โš ๏ธ DONโ€™T STACK THEM. Giving Bute and Banamine together can increase the risk of ulcers, intestinal injury, and kidney damage.

โš ๏ธ Banamine may make a horse with a serious intestinal problem appear much more comfortable temporarily. If the pain returns, breaks through the medication, or your horse continues showing colic signs, call your veterinarian.

๐Ÿฆด My horse hurts when he MOVES. Think BUTE.
๐Ÿคข My horse hurts in his GUT. Think BANAMINE.
๐Ÿคท I don't know WHY my horse hurts. Think VET. โ˜Ž๏ธ

And remember, pain relief isn't the same thing as fixing the problem.

**โ€œWhere good horsemen become Godโ€™s horsemen.โ€** ๐Ÿค โœ๏ธ

Every year, Bridles and Bibles hosts our **Open Ranch Horse Show** to help raise funds for our **FREE riding clinics**.

This show is one of our favorite events of the yearโ€”a time for horsemen and horsewomen of all ages to come together, celebrate the work theyโ€™ve put in throughout the season, and showcase the relationship theyโ€™ve built with their horses.

And weโ€™re kicking off the weekend with something extra specialโ€ฆ

# # # ๐Ÿด FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2nd โ€” YOUTH DAY! ๐Ÿด

Youth Day is all about giving our young horsemen and horsewomen a place to come have fun, gain experience, build confidence, and enjoy the horses they love in a welcoming, encouraging environment.

Whether your young rider is brand new to showing or has been competing for years, **we want them there!** This day is about more than ribbonsโ€”itโ€™s about learning, horsemanship, sportsmanship, and building a relationship with their horse.

**YOUTH CLASSES**

๐Ÿด **Lead-Line** โ€” Ages 3โ€“5
๐Ÿด **Peewee** โ€” Ages 6โ€“9
๐Ÿด **Junior** โ€” Ages 10โ€“14
๐Ÿด **Teens** โ€” Ages 15โ€“17

# # # WEEKEND SCHEDULE

Please slow down on the dirt road and coming up to the barn, even if you're running late for your lesson! We have horses, kids, dogs, and lots of activity around the property.

We'd much rather have you a few minutes late than rushing in. Safety first! Thanks! โค๏ธ๐Ÿด
