THE SILENT KILLER OF POOL EQUIPMENT: Why tabs don't belong in your skimmer.
If you as a homeowner or if you have a service that uses your skimmer as a chemical dispenser you should immediately stop.
Tabs are not just Chlorine, they are about 50% Cyanuric Acid (CYA/Stabilizer) and they belong in a proper in-line chlorinator or a pool floater.
When the pump is off the tabs continue to dissolve. The acid stays concentrated in the skimmer, creating highly acidic water. When the pump turns back on, that "slug" of acid sends a shock directly into the pump, filter, and heater, eating away at metal parts and gaskets over time.
