🎈 happy birthday to me 🦁

Classic duets: on the tail end of black music month and after the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, we are all we need to get by! Seeing the World Cup videos of cultures across the world seeing what the spirit of the United States really is against the backdrop of maga and trump trying to impose a version of America rooted in white supremacy, let’s not forget that the rights and progress we have made as a society built on the backs of African Americans is rooted in community and fighting for the freedoms we all deserve. we can fight as we have fought before.

All I need to Get by: Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

Black Music Month Duets:
Change the World - Eric Clapton & Babyface, 1996

One of my absolute favorite songs featuring

3 Grammys including Record of the Year. Co-written by Tommy Sims (in addition to Gordon Kennedy and Wayne Kirkpatrick), then produced by Babyface. Clapton has said he specifically asked Babyface to give the song “the blues thing,” and the opening guitar lines are a direct nod to Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy”.

Black musical tradition at the heart of one of the biggest pop hits of the 90s.
