Former Super Bowl champion running back Wendell Smallwood Jr., who's been imprisoned since 2024 on fraud and gun possession charges, was granted an early release to be by the side of his 8-year-old daughter, Mila, who is dying of cancer, according to the Delaware News Journal.

Smallwood's daughter reportedly was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and doctors said she may have only days or weeks to live.

Butler is turning 19 on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Payne County District Judge Michael Kulling ruled to dismiss the case against Butler on the grounds that he would lose jurisdiction “by operation of law,” according to Derek Chance, Butler’s attorney. 🤔

The Hinds County coroner has identified Tasia Fortune as the woman found h*nging from a tree behind a vacant home in Jackson earlier this week.

Jackson police declined to release details that might explain how Fortune, a 29-year-old Black woman, ended up in the manner she was discovered Monday that evoked memories of the South’s history of lynching.

The coroner’s office said her family has been notified. Her body was sent to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
