DAY ONE. OUR DESCENT TO HELL.
Today, the company took on Gertrude Steinโs extraordinary 1938 text for the first time in Milwaukee, diving headfirst into its tempo, rhythm, sound, and repetition. The actors are embracing this dense puzzle with creative intelligence, fearless instincts, and a fierce appetite for discovery.
Our descent begins. Follow the journey at the link in bio.

The unearthing begins today.
First rehearsal. Today, we build the foundation of something that has never been built before. A new world. A new language. A new encounter between text, bodies, sound, light, and imagination.
We invite you to follow us as we build it, and join us for the realized experience at wisconsinclassicstage.com.

Meet Lincoln Donner | Composer of Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights
๐ก ๐
This is Lincoln Donnerโs first production with Wisconsin Classic Stage. He has worked closely with Cole Castine for several years, designing sound and composing original music for many of Coleโs productions. Most recently, Lincoln served as sound designer for Moon Over Buffalo at Waukesha Civic Theatre.
His previous work includes sound design for Muskego High Schoolโs Drama Club productions of Camino Real, Julius Caesar, Check Please, The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza, Beautiful Noises, and The Proposal. For their production of The Crucible, Lincoln created a complete original soundtrack.
Wisconsin Classic Stage is thrilled to welcome Lincolnโs genius to the company.

Meet the Company of DOCTOR FAUSTUS LIGHTS THE LIGHTS
In 1938, Gertrude Stein wrote a Faust who doesnโt want knowledge, or power, or youth. He wants light, infinite and artificial and never ending. He gets it, and he is never satisfied.
Steinโs text has waited eighty-eight years for its professional premiere, and this November it finally gets one, in Milwaukee, sung by the audience, staged inside a church with no stage at all.
The company bringing it to life is entirely Wisconsin artists, directed by Cole Castine, with an original monophonic score composed by Lincoln Donner.
You wonโt just watch this play. Youโll stand inside it, move through it, and on some nights, sing it.
Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights runs for its Milwaukee premiere, Oct 30 through Nov 8, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, with fewer than 600 seats available across the entire run.
