What a BRUNCH!🍴🧡
Our inaugural Forks & Futures was everything we hoped it would be and more.
Thank you to the six fabulous chefs, six incredible FoodRight students, generous sponsors, inspiring speakers, hardworking Board and staff, and every single person who showed up to celebrate with us. Whether you were there in person or cheering us on from afar, your support means so much.
Hosting our first-ever fundraiser has been a dream for FoodRight. To finally see it come to life—and to see so many friends, family members, longtime supporters, and new faces gathered around the table—filled our cups 100 times over. 🧡
There were so many highlights: delicious dishes inspired by FoodRight recipes, students working side-by-side with the chefs, inspiring stories, an electric live auction, and a whole lot of joy around the table.
We could never fit it all into one post, but these photos offer a little taste. 📸
A very special thank-you to our External Affairs Committee, whose dedication and commitment brought Forks & Futures to life. And, of course, thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible.
We’re already looking forward to what’s next. 🥂

🥣🌿 Mustard greens, red lentils, and bowls of fun!
September Family Cookshop brought together lots of new friends, familiar faces, and two returning Cookshop regulars who we hadn’t seen since 2025—with a brand-new little friend in tow! (Swipe to pic 3!) 👶💚
We harvested fresh mustard greens from our garden beds, cooked up a big pot of Garden Lentil Soup, and ended the afternoon with full bellies, happy faces, and a birthday celebration for Ingrid! 🎂
Missed this one? No worries—the recipe is already on our blog! Check it out and bring a little Family Cookshop to your own kitchen:

When Anita Garrett noticed her grandchildren were coming home with stories about school meals they didn’t want to eat, she couldn’t ignore it.
As a Milwaukee Public Schools grandmother, Anita remembered school meals from her own childhood differently: flavorful food, good smells filling the cafeteria, and meals that brought joy.
So in 2022, Anita started showing up at school board meetings.
Then she started asking other parents what they were seeing. She surveyed families and heard the same thing again and again: parents wanted more variety, more options, and—most importantly—a real voice in decisions about what their children were served.
What started with one grandmother’s determination grew into the Good School Food Advocates, a parent ambassador program that gives families the knowledge, confidence, and tools to advocate for better school meals.
Today, parents are speaking up at community events, serving on food advisory committees, and helping shape the future of school food in Milwaukee.
And Anita is still at the heart of it.
“We’re keeping hope alive,” she says.
Because when parents have a seat at the table, they can help make sure every child is fed, seen, and heard.
