"For decades, animal experimentation has been treated as the default approach for biomedical research—even though more than 92% of drugs tested successfully in animals end up failing in people.
These failures cage, exploit, and kill millions of animals every year, waste billions of taxpayer dollars, and slow medical progress for people still waiting for cures and therapies.
NAMs offer a better path for everyone—human and non-human."
The creation of ORIVA signals growing recognition within the NIH—the world’s largest funder of animal research—that the future of science depends less on animals and more on human-relevant methods.
We hope ORIVA will in fact bring meaningful change versus being another promising initiative with limited impact. Time will tell.
NIH Launches Office to Reduce Animal Use The NIH has launched ORIVA, a new office focused on advancing human-based research methods and reducing animal use in biomedical research.

📚💚 Did you know our store, Ethique Nouveau, has not one, but two lending libraries?
Teaching Compassion - Dissection Alternatives Library
For educators, homeschool families, students, and anyone interested in humane science education, our dissection alternatives library offers resources that replace animal dissection with compassionate, effective learning tools. Animals don't have to be harmed for students to learn about biology, anatomy, and the natural world.
Paws and Claws - Pet Toy Lending Library
Animals deserve enrichment, too! Our pet toy lending library allows guardians to borrow toys, try new enrichment options, and discover what their companion animals enjoy. It's a fun, affordable, and sustainable way to keep dogs, cats, chickens, and other animal companions engaged and entertained. $5 refundable deposit.
Both libraries reflect our belief that compassion can be woven into every aspect of our lives—from education to how we care for the animals who share our homes.
Stop by, check them out, and help us spread the word! Have you borrowed from either library? We'd love to hear about your experience in the comments.

We kicked off Farmers Market season at the Riverwalk Market on May 30th and Midtown Market on June 6th! At markets, we promote ARC’s Vegan University program which offers free mentors, online workshops, in person cooking classes and grocery shopping tours. We also gather for dine outs at local restaurants that are vegan or offer vegan options - all are welcome! You don’t need to be vegan, we just asked that you order vegan if you’re joining us for a dine out. Follow us on Facebook and/or Meetup for upcoming events!

We had a wonderful time at the Open Streets Lyndale on Sunday!
Even though it was a hot day, the rain stayed away, and we enjoyed connecting with lots of people at our tent through Pay-Per-View, Spin the Wheel of Knowledge, and outreach conversations. We were excited to meet several people interested in our free Vegan University program.
A special shout-out to all the dogs who stopped by for a drink of water, and an even bigger thank-you to our amazing volunteers, Marius and Ace, who made the day possible.
We appreciate everyone who stopped by and hope to see you again soon!

Rochester EarthFest never fails to deliver! Our table was buzzing all day — kids lined up to spin to win, and grabbed free stickers and suckers, while parents stopped to browse our eye-catching literature and signage. We had some truly thought-provoking conversations about the benefits of a plant-based diet, and more than a few people were surprised by the answers our spin-to-win wheel revealed!

Thank you to our Farmaste volunteers for putting in the time and hard work to clean up the loving space these animals call home 💚 Saturday, May 9th was a regular barn cleaning day while Sunday, May 31st was more of a fixer upper kind of day. If helping rescued animals is something you’re interested in, join us once a month! And, if our time slot doesn’t work for your schedule, Farmaste ALWAYS has openings to help out! Sign up on POINT to sign up with ARC at Farmaste.

We had an inspiring volunteer meeting on Wednesday evening as we finished the second half of “Five Decades–One Mission,” a powerful 6-part documentary that explores the origins of the animal rights movement and the pioneers who helped shape it into what it is today.
Three of the four volunteers who joined us were new to ARC—but not new to advocating for animals. We’re excited to welcome them to our community and grateful to have them join us in the fight for a more just and compassionate world.
Incredibly disappointing 💔
