MSR Design principal Kate Michaud and senior associate Lauren Gardner will be panelists and design challenge leaders at the Library Journal Design Institute in Columbus, Ohio, on October 8th.

Hosted by Library Journal in partnership with our client the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Design Institute will offer discussions on the latest trends in library design and explorations into how to plan and design spaces for community libraries at all scales.

Your Newcastle branch will be experiencing some changes!

To create a more inclusive and positive customer experience, Newcastle Public Library is getting some updates, including a new Maker Lab, a new children's area, and a new outdoor learning space.

Here is more information to help you plan your next visit:

🚗 Parking on the south side of the building may be affected during the construction process.

🔊 Our library may be noisier than usual. While we are working with our crews to plan noisy construction while the library is closed, noise levels may be higher.

🌠 Our drive-through book drop remains open! Materials can be returned to the drive-through drop on the west side of the building. Please follow the signs showing where to go.

🚫 The Book Lockers and Moviebox are unavailable at this time. Please check the website to find out the latest information regarding availability.

📚 Max out your checkouts! We’re moving some shelving – help us clear our shelves! You can see how many items you can check out with your card here.

Guardian Fine Art Services installed Peace in Union along with other one-of-a-kind paintings! Once the painting was placed on the wall, Midwest Art Conservation Center touched up a few areas on the frame to give it the finishing touch.

Our next big move is in just 1.5 weeks, stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes updates! 👀✨

Join PLS for the completion of major enhancements at Norman Public Library West with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 25, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at 300 Norman Center Court in Norman. ✨

🤝Hosted in partnership with Norman Chamber of Commerce the community is invited to tour the newly upgraded spaces which are designed to support learning, creativity, connection, and discovery.

Visitors can enjoy activities in the new spaces, including:

🦙Yoga with alpacas in the new outdoor learning space, offered every 30 minutes
🎹Live piano music in the new event space
🥽Demonstrations of equipment in the new Maker Lab

We’re excited to share that MSR Design Principal Kate Michaud will present “Architecting Access: Designing New and Existing Facilities for Unstaffed Self-Service” at the 2026 American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago.

Held Saturday, June 27, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Central, the session will explore how libraries can design new and existing facilities to support unstaffed patron self-service during nontraditional hours—while keeping spaces secure, welcoming, and easy to use.
