Project Success

Last week Project Success hosted an outdoor adventure day for middle school students from Ella Baker Global Studies and Humanities. Students learned about the basics of camping in the BWCA including portaging and paddling canoes, packing gear and setting up tents, building campfires and what animals to look out for in Minnesota’s Northwoods. Thank you to our partners at Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board for helping us with this fun and exciting day for students!

We ❤️ our partner teachers and school staff! In August, we had the joy of celebrating our incredible partner educators with not one, but TWO teacher night events! Thanks to our wonderful partners in the Guthrie Theater and the Minnesota Twins, teachers attended either an evening at the Guthrie to see Cabaret or had a fun night cheering on the Twins with our PS team. Both gatherings were a wonderful way to honor the partnerships between Project Success and educators—and the perfect kickoff to the new school year!

This summer, 219 middle school students embarked on week-long outdoor adventure trips in the Boundary Waters with Project Success! These expeditions provide opportunities for students to take risks, grow, and build confidence and community. Check out just a few photos from the trips!

Project Success’ Career Pathways Program is our newest Institute offering, giving students tools and guidance that they can carry into their careers beyond high school. This spring, a PS cohort of high school students ideated, developed, and presented a new program to help solve a challenge faced by another local non-profit. Congratulations to the students of Anwatin Middle School who performed the final Project Success musical of the season! Moana Jr. was a fantastic performance thanks to the hard work of all the actors and tech crew. Congrats to them on a job well done!

We recently wrapped up our spring RADs (River Adventure Days) by bringing hundreds of students from Sullivan, Franklin, and Olson to Fort Snelling State Park! These three unforgettable days completed our year of RADs, following six in the fall for a total of 9 adventure-filled experiences across our middle schools.

Students explored canoeing, fire-building, orienteering, water quality testing, and more—developing skills like teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving, while discovering new career paths in the great outdoors.
