Mitchell Animal Rescue's TNR program will be closed for all things cats starting Wednesday, Sept 16th. We will resume Public service on Monday, Sept 20th.

WAY TO GO MITCHELL!!!

In the last few weeks we have approved of over 40 community cats to go through the TNR program.

These are all stray and feral cats that roam your neighborhoods. Cats that someone decided to provide food, shelter and care for. Cats that someone decided needed to be altered. Cats that won't be reproducing and creating all the problems that come with it.

If you see a community cat with a green number in its ear, know it has been vetted and is being cared for.

If you are caring for community cats that you would like to get altered. Please message us. We will do the vet work for free. We will even provide you a trap if needed.

We are a spay and neuter program only. We will not rehome your cats. If you have cats you need removed, you will need to call animal control. We get the feral cats that do not pass temperament inspection out of the pound. These cats will be placed on farms. These are the only cats we will rehome.

I care for a colony of community cats (yes, I have had them all spayed and neutered) but one of them has been missing for a week. She is a gray tabby, but only has 3 legs. She typically sticks pretty close to our place and I am worried about her. If you have seen her, please shoot me a message.

If you are feeding or harboring stray, feral, or community cats in the city of Mitchell and need assistance with spays and neuters, please call 605-359-3097. We will assign you pre approved numbers that you can use to take your cats to Creekside to be vetted for free. We can also loan you traps If needed. If you are feeding and harboring cats by city definition you are the owner. This is your responsibility to prevent a much bigger problem for they will breed and numbers will quickly get out of hand.

If you have unwanted stray, feral or community cats call animal control . They will set traps for you or give you traps to set. These cats go to the pound where they go through proper legal channels. Tame cats go to rescue if not claimed or adopted. Feral cats go to TNR where they are vetted and placed on farms.

We are not a rehoming or fostering service. The only cats that we will rehome come out of the pound. We are a spay and neuter program only, with the goal of population control.

If you barrow traps from us, you will need to sign a liability waiver. Traps are only to be set on property you own or have permission to be on. You will be responsible for monitoring your own traps and dropping cats off and picking up from the vet.

Mitchell Animlal Rescue TNR is a program ran under a 5013c. As a volunteer with a full time day schedule I can not do all the trapping and running around when vet hours are the same as my work hours. Help me help you. Together we can accomplish alot.

Looking for a forever home

Tab was found with injuries behind the truck stop. He was lucky to be given to an individual who was able to take him to a vet and help him through his recovery. He has been neutered and vaccinated. He is under a year old and gets along with other cats.

He is looking for his forever home. Indoors only. $75 adoption fee.

The City of Mitchell has FREE TNR services

Feeding and caring for outdoor cats without spaying and neutering may feel compassionate, but it actually allows the cycle of suffering to continue.

One unspayed female cat — and her kittens — can lead to hundreds of cats over time. The result is more starving kittens, disease, injuries, fighting, dead kittens, overwhelmed shelters, and cats being hit by cars or harmed by weather and predators.

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is what stops the cycle.
When community cats are:
• trapped
• spayed/neutered
• vaccinated
• and returned to their territory

the population stabilizes and gradually declines. The cats live healthier lives, nuisance behaviors decrease, and far fewer kittens are born to suffer outdoors.

Feeding alone is not rescue.
If food is provided without sterilization, the colony grows, more cats are attracted to the area, and the problem becomes worse each breeding season.

Real compassion means taking responsibility for prevention — not just providing food.

If you feed feral cats, please also support TNR:
✔ Spay/neuter every cat possible
✔ Get kittens socialized and adopted when possible
✔ Vaccinate when you can
✔ Work with local rescues and TNR groups
✔ Encourage responsible pet ownership

We cannot “save” cats by allowing endless litters to be born outside. TNR is the humane solution

The City of Mitchell has free TNR Services.

If you are caring for cats that you would like to keep, contact us. We will provide you with traps and pre-approved numbers you can use to have your cats altered, virus tested, and vaccinated at Creekside.

If you have cats you want removed from your property contact amimls control. They will either trap for you or loan you a trap. If they are unable to do so, traps can be borrowed from the TNR program. These cats go to the pound. Friendly cats end up on the adoptable side of the rescue. Feral cats go to TNR. All TNR cats are vetted at Lakeciew and then picked up by adopters with approved applications.

Mitchell Animal Rescue TNR will be closed for services, resources, and conversation about all things cats until April 27th while we attend a family wedding out of the country.
