This is a medium voltage breaker timing test—one of the most telling checks in the whole process. The test set measures exactly how fast each phase opens and closes, down to the millisecond, and whether all three poles move together.
Why it matters: a breaker that trips even slightly slow or out of sync can fail to clear a fault when it counts. Timing data tells us the mechanism is healthy, the contacts are in spec, and the breaker will do its job the instant it's called on.

On-site for a transfer protection relay upgrade at a gas facility in Florida.
This is the kind of work that never makes headlines but it really does impact critical infrastructure. Usually involveds testing and commissioning protective relays, verifying phase current and metering values, and making sure every wiring connection in the panel is exactly where it needs to be before the system goes live.
A few things stood out on this job:
- Hours of bench testing and configuration before a single wire gets landed in the field
- Precision matters at every step and one mislabeled terminal can take down a whole protection scheme
- The unglamorous work (cable management, torque checks, documentation) is what makes the difference between a system that works and one that fails when you actually need it to
Grateful for a team that takes this seriously. Protective relaying isn't flashy, but it's the stuff that protects people, equipment, and uptime.
