It was an impactful gathering of education, workforce, state, and industry leaders focused on the future of Alabama's talent pipeline.

Attendees heard from a powerful lineup of key decision-makers, industry executives, and workforce expert Cam Marston, who shared critical insights on emerging labor trends, education-industry collaboration, and innovative strategies to prepare Alabama's workforce for what's next.

"Every year, Delta’s Flight Operations, in partnership with Women in Aviation International, hosts the WING Flight (Women Inspiring Next Generation) to introduce young women ages 11-18 to aviation and aerospace careers. Last week, for the 11th annual WING Flight, 160 young women from Atlanta-area schools came to Mobile to see how aircraft come to life.

Delta Air Lines, Airbus, Bishop State Community College, and Flight Works Alabama came together to curate a truly fabulous day in advanced manufacturing. The girls were able to visit our interactive aerospace exhibit, play “Hammer It Out,” a quality-control card game, tour the final assembly line of the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Site, visit Bishop State’s Gene Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and end the day with a panel discussion. Big news for Bishop State and the Gulf Coast! 🚢 🌊

Bishop State Community College has been awarded a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to support the development of a state-of-the-art Maritime and Workforce Training Center. This investment will help prepare students, veterans, and workplace professionals for high-demand careers in maritime, shipbuilding, advanced manufacturing, and submarine construction while strengthening the region’s workforce for years to come.

The guys were working on their OSHA training, Mr. Turner shared what’s coming up, and the bonus was having a student demonstrate heavy equipment operating on the simulator!

The Waterfront Workforce Program is officially underway!

Our newest cohort, #3, came ready to learn, and they are gearing up to dive into rigorous classroom learning, hands-on training, and state-of-the-art heavy equipment simulations. 🚜

These dedicated students will work toward earning 5 industry-recognized credentials, including OSHA-10 standards, Skid Steer and Bulldozer Operator certifications. 🦺

We can’t wait to see all that this group accomplishes. Stay tuned as we share their journey over the coming weeks!

Waterfront Rescue Mission

Exciting news from Workforce Development! 🚜✨

The ALDOT Heavy Highway Construction Program is officially underway! Our newest cohort came ready to learn, and they are gearing up to dive into rigorous classroom learning, hands-on training, and state-of-the-art heavy equipment simulations.

Over the next 10 weeks, these dedicated students will work toward earning 5 industry-recognized credentials, including OSHA-10 standards, Skid Steer and Bulldozer Operator certifications. 🚧 🦺

Day 1 was a resounding success! Between orientation, a guided site tour, and a sweet morning treat to start things off right…the energy on campus was unmatched. 🍩

We can’t wait to see all that this group accomplishes. Stay tuned as we share their journey over the next 10 weeks!

We are excited to share that Bishop State Community College has been selected to receive support through S.E.E.’s Line Worker Grant Program! ⚡️

S.E.E.’s Line Worker Grant Program provides funding primarily for partial to full scholarships for qualified candidates who have been accepted into participating lineworker programs at select colleges and universities.

We are proud that Bishop State was referred to S.E.E. through its membership, recognizing our commitment to producing high-quality pre-apprentice graduates prepared to enter the utility and electrical workforce.

This investment will help remove financial barriers for students while creating more opportunities for individuals to pursue rewarding careers as lineworkers.

Our hearts are truly heavy because we recently lost an amazing student, Thaddeus Murphy. 💔 We send our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and staff of the Waterfront Mission during this difficult time.

Mr. Murphy graduated from the Waterfront Workforce Program in July. He was a great student and was extremely honored to be asked to speak at the graduation. His smile and gentle demeanor will be missed.

We never thought that when we say to our students that we will be right there with you until the end…that this could be the ending!
