Fantastic opportunity for healthcare workers, teachers, and first responders! Consider looking in to this if you are first timer looking to own your own home. Midtown and downtown are continuing to be on the up&up, too 😉

The City will be offering enhanced down payment assistance to qualifying frontline healthcare workers and certified teachers buying their first home.

Our Down Payment Assistance Program is designed to help bridge some of the financial gaps that are often barriers to first-time homeownership by providing up to $10,000 in down payment assistance to first-time buyers who meet federal income requirements. Since last year, we have also offered down payment assistance of up to $20,000 to qualifying police officers and firefighters buying their first home.

With additional funding from the American Rescue Plan, we are able to expand that program to include qualifying healthcare workers and active certified teachers. Offering down payment assistance to our first responders has helped our employees find attainable housing and put hardworking public servants in local neighborhoods. I think we all learned pretty quickly during the pandemic just how vital our healthcare workers are, and we saw teachers adapt to make sure our children’s education continued uninterrupted.

Recycling centers are opening Wednesday, October 13.

Recycling Centers in Mobile will reopen on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. The City of Mobile's recycling centers at 308 Pinehill Drive and 4851 Museum Drive are tentatively set to reopen for drop-offs beginning at 7 am on Wednesday.

We appreciate everyone's patience during this time and are looking forward to seeing residents making use of our recycling drop-off facilities again soon. For more information on center hours and operations, you can visit our recycling page at cityofmobile.org/services/recycling/

Wonderful family friendly opportunity to be a part of something fun this Saturday.

A new “Welcome to Mobile” community mural is going to be painted this coming Saturday at 714 Dauphin Street, which is located at the intersection of Scott Street. No experience is necessary to help create this community mural as it will be ‘paint by number’ and have an outline. Families and children are invited to stop by and contribute to the mural any time from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 2.

The mural was designed by McGill-Toolen Senior Sarah Beth Bexley as part of her service project for Youth Leadership Mobile. To fund this project, Sarah Beth sold t-shirts featuring the ‘Welcome to Mobile’ design. She then worked with Lucy Gafford, Executive Director of the Mobile Arts Council, to obtain the permits needed to bring the mural to life at the intersection of Dauphin and Scott.

Delta Dogs will be providing free vaccines to dogs on Saturday, October 2nd from 3-5pm for local citizens in need. This event is hosted by our partners at Yorktown Missionary Baptist Church. First come, first served. Read below for more information:
1. Dogs must be kept on leashes or in a carrier.
2. Clients must wear a mask when talking to the veterinarians.
3. Proof of income may be required, as this event is for low income citizens and their dogs.
