All LSR eyes are now on Bolivia… 🇧🇴

The Bolivia Speed Trials 2026 are scheduled for October 22-27 on the Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat in southwest Bolivia.

The event is part of the FIM Land Speed World Records discipline and returns to the calendar for the first time since 2023, drawing teams aiming for official FIA and FIM records.

The 30-kilometer, 33-meter-wide course sits at about 3,600 meters elevation with a salt crust nearly 10 meters thick, giving teams long acceleration and braking zones and thinner air for less aerodynamic drag.

The main focus this year is the Top 1 ACK Attack motorcycle, with rider Rocky Robinson and designer Mike Akatiff targeting the first official motorcycle run over 400 mph, a goal they've pursued for more than 20 years.

Recent updates note the salt is completely dry and weather is stable with daytime temps around 14°C to 18°C.

Your Bolivia 🇧🇴 Weather and Salt conditions update:
Salar de Uyuni is currently experiencing optimal, stable weather as it sits firmly in its late winter dry season.
Daytime temperatures are hovering around a comfortable 58°F to 64°F (14°C to 18°C) with plenty of clear Andean sunshine, though overnight lows still plummet to near-freezing at around 30°F (-1°C).
Wind conditions remain calm to moderate, which is ideal for the ongoing logistics, track surveying, and base camp setup.
The salt crust is in prime condition for the high-speed requirements of the upcoming Bolivia Speed Trials scheduled for October 22–27, 2026.
After months of drying, the salt flat is completely devoid of water, presenting a bone-dry, hard-packed surface nearly 10 meters thick.
This offers 100% full access across the 10,000-square-kilometer basin, allowing crews to smoothly prepare the massive 30-kilometer-long, 33-meter-wide track required for FIM land-speed record attempts.

As one speed event wraps up here in the states, another unfolds a little further south.
Best of luck to all the teams and staff for a safe and successful meet.

“Wahoo....as the boss says!”

“First day of site preparation completed following arrival of the containers to site yesterday!

🟢Preservation of the environment is always top of mind. We left the site pristine as we left last yet and will do the same again this year.

🟢All care is taken to protect the stunning Salar de Uyuni Bolivia with appropriate ground cover before cars are removed.

🟢Our home made track grader continues with the critical track grading - bit more weight added for good measure.

Gotta love Kiwi ingenuity!!

Desperately need your financial support and partnership. Please team with us. 🙏🙏 https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/chasing-800”

On this day in 1964, Tom Green set a new World Land Speed Record of 413.20 mph (698.50 km/h) in Walt Arfon’s jet-powered Wingfoot Express.

Green would hold the record for just three days, until Walt’s brother Art Arfons snatched it away during a frenetic period of record breaking on the salt flats.
