“Afternoon of Stars” with Mobile Opera Join Mobile Opera in Bernheim Hall of the Ben May Main Library to hear members of the casts of upcoming productions perform their favorite musical selections!

The stage is almost set, and it’s time to meet the incredible artists bringing Romeo and Juliet to life! Follow along each day as we introduce you to the talented voices you’ll soon see—and hear—on the Mobile Opera stage.

Zachary Petrie is a multi-instrumental musician specializing in classical and popular vocal styles. He has performed in several theatrical and choral programs in the Mobile Bay area, including roles like Captain Corcoran in HMS Pinafore, Jupiter in Orphée aux enfers, and Kevin T./Garth in Come From Away. Zach was a Mobile Opera Katherine Willson Scholar and a finalist in the Madame Rose Palmai-Tenser Scholarship Competition, along with other awards and scholarships from both Coastal Alabama Community College and The University of South Alabama.

The stage is almost set, and it’s time to meet the incredible artists bringing Romeo and Juliet to life! Follow along each day as we introduce you to the talented voices you’ll soon see—and hear—on the Mobile Opera stage.

Dr. Jacobs is an established veteran of hundreds of performances in opera and musical theatre. He excels as an actor and singer “with a smooth baritone and a special talent for shifting from comedy to darker mischief.” Recent engagements include Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte with Mobile Opera, Narrator / Mysterious Old Man in Into the Woods with Charlottesville Opera, and Captain Corcoran in HMS Pinafore with First Coast Opera. Engagements for the 2026-2027 season include singing Benoit & Alcindoro in La Boheme with the Northwest Florida Symphony, and as a soloist in Handel's Messiah with New Orleans Symphony Chorus and in Alzheimer's Stories with Choral Society of Pensacola. Dr. Jacobs will also serve as stage director for Fiddler on the Roof at Joe Jefferson Players and Three Little Pigs at Coastal Alabama Community College where he is the vocal music instructor.

Ben Wiggins, holds a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from the University of South Alabama. Mr. Wiggins has performed the role of Second Priest in Mozart’s The Magic Flute as well as several productions with the Mobile Opera Chorus. As a member of the University of South Alabama’s Opera Theatre program Ben has performed as The Defendant in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, Ralph Rackstraw in Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore, and Orpheus in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld. Mr. Wiggins has also sung in the chorus with The Mobile Symphony, and performed several roles with the University of Alabama’s Opera Theatre program.

Tenor and Mobile, AL native Myles Garver has established his reputation as a singer of rich and varied performance experience, praised by the Salzburger Nachrichten for his ability to “create a psychologically highly complex Orlando, between violent offender and victim” in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino. In 2018, Myles joined the TCU Artist Diploma Program and became one of eight Young Artists with Fort Worth Opera. In addition to TCU and Fort Worth Opera, Mr. Garver has appeared with the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Mobile Opera, Pensacola Opera, Asheville Lyric, Brevard Music Center, Opera Louisiane, LSU Opera, and University of South Alabama Opera. Some favorite roles include Fenton (Falstaff), Orlando (Orlando Paladino), Don Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro), MacHeath (ThreepennyOpera), Giove and Anfinomo (Ulysses), Tom Rakewell (Rake’s Progress), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte), Don Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), to name a few. Myles enjoys frequent engagements as a concert soloist and recitalist, having sung the rarely performed pieces Saint-Saëns Requiem and Vaughan-Williams’ Serenade to Music, along with classics like Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy and Handel’s Messiah. Since the pandemic, he has relocated back to Mobile, AL where he enjoys an active performance life, including recent roles as Don Basilio/Don Curzio in Mobile Opera’s production of Le nozze di Figaro.

Richard Coarsey, baritone, is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Richard grew up in Mobile and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of South Alabama. Although primarily an oboist at the time, Richard also studied voice with Billye Brown Youmans and Linda Zoghby. His debut stage performance was as John Adams in JJP’s 2012 production of "1776" and he most recently played the role of Robert Livingston in Chickasaw Civic Theater’s 2026 production of "1776" and First Priest in Mobile Opera's "The Magic Flute." He has sung with the Mobile Opera Chorus in several concert performances and in the 2018 production of "La Boheme." His first comprimario role with the Mobile opera was as Baron Duphol in the 2020 production of "La Traviata."

Hailed by Opera News as an “excellent mezzo,” Indiana native Dr. Lori Guy has created a diverse career for herself by training and singing in operas, operettas, and musical theater productions. Lori has sung a variety of roles, including Mary Poppins in "Mary Poppins," Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus," Mother in "Ragtime," Cherubino in "Le Nozze di Figaro," and Kathy in "Company," Edith in Mississippi Opera’s "Pirates of Penzance." She has been seen most recently as Giovanna in "Rigoletto" and Mercedes in "Carmen" with Mobile Opera. Lori has also had the privilege of bringing Jake Heggie’s work "Farewell, Auschwitz" to audiences in the South Alabama area and she continues to promote this stunning and important work. Lori resides in Mobile, Alabama with her husband and two kids. An active teacher, Lori is the Associate Dean of the Alabama School of the Arts at the University of Mobile.

Mobile Opera awarded scholarships as part of the Katherine Willson Scholarship Program to four undergraduate voice students in area universities: Ataya Griffin, a Senior at the University of Mobile; Marisol Hoffman and Kendall Thompson, Seniors at the University of South Alabama; and Emily Dickson, a Junior at the University of South Alabama. This past week, Mobile Opera had the honor of presenting the Katherine Willson Scholarships to the 2026-2027 winners in front of their peers at the University of Mobile and the University of South Alabama. Congratulations to the winners!
