🛟 LIQUOR BLOG 🛟 Today is the 56th anniversary of BLACK TOT DAY. On July 31, 1970 the final rum ration (or "tot") was handed out to the sailors of the British Royal Navy, ending a 239 year-old practice. It had dwindled from a gallon of (very low alcohol) beer, to a half pint of rum, then later the rum was diluted 2:1 water to rum, called Navy Grog (not to be confused with the Don the Beachcomber tiki classic). It continued to shrink until it was really kind of just ceremonial.

To commemorate (not celebrate) the occasion, we're pouring up $11 shots of Mr. Fogg Navy Rum, which is a collaborative effort between two friends of the Hab, master blender Alexandre Gabriel Alexandre Gabriel and rum historian and author Matt Pietrek Matt Pietrek. It's bottled at an historically accurate 55.7% alc/vol and is a blend of rums from Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, and Jamaica. And it is DELICIOUS, and will definitely put some wind in the old sails. And you swag hags will be happy to know that you get to KEEP THE GLASS! WOO!

So, raise a glass of rum with us, and proclaim, "Stand Fast the Holy Ghost!"

🚪HELP WANTED: Weekend Door Person 🚪 Our long-time greeter extraordinaire Stephen is leaving for a new career so we have some big shoes to fill!

THE JOB: If you’ve been to the bar on the weekends, you know that this is first and foremost a customer service position. Qualified applicants must be outgoing, friendly, helpful and excited to engage with people from all walks of life. Primary responsibilities include but may not be limited to: checking IDs, opening the door for customers, keeping a headcount (with an electronic counter), answering customer questions. Secondary responsibilities include but may not be limited to: tactfully dealing with problem customers without undue aggression. Fortunately, this is a very rare occurrence at the Hab, but it does happen occasionally.

THE HOURS: This position is for Fridays 4pm to 1-2am, and Saturdays from 5pm to 1-2am. Ideally, we’d prefer to have one person for both nights, but a person for each night will also be considered. So, if you’re interested in only one night, please do apply. PAY is competitive, and weekly. Experience is a huge plus, but not absolutely necessary.
