As the weather gets colder, many of our neighbors experiencing homelessness are in need of warmth, comfort, and hope. PEIR is collecting donations to help those in our community who need it most.

PEIR donates Narcan kits, offers prevention training to Reid State students and staff

People Engaged in Recovery (PEIR), an organization committed to recovery support services and overdose prevention training is collaborating with Reid State Community College to help promote student wellness and campus safety.

Through the CDC's Overdose Data to Action program, the Alabama Department of Public Health donated Narcan kits to Reid State's main campus and Lions Den dormitory on July 30. Narcan is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose when administered quickly.

The CDC's Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) cooperative agreement provides funding to 90 health departments under two distinct OD2A programs to reduce drug overdoses and the impact of related harms.

"Our entire program's mission is to increase awareness in our communities while encouraging conversations about recovery and prevention, so we appreciate opportunities like this to connect with colleges and offer our support," said Amanda Gray, OD2A team leader.

The kits OD2A provided to Reid State will be placed in strategic locations and made available to trained personnel to help ensure a rapid response during emergencies.

"This donation reflects our shared commitment to protecting lives and supporting the well-being of our students and community," said Dr. Coretta Boykin, President of Reid State Community College.

"Reid State continues to expand partnerships with organizations that promote student success both inside and outside the classroom, and this is another example of how community collaboration can create a safer and healthier environment for our entire college."
