There's been so much chatter about teams with losing records sitting high in the power rankings. Case in point: No. 4 St. Mary's, which has lost three straight. Before you break your keyboards or rage in the comments, consider this: Strength of schedule.

The Rams have played some of the best in Northern California and Nevada, while there are others in the top-10 getting fat on poor competition. That said, St. Mary's can't afford another stumble. The Rams need to get right now that the league season has arrived or the Pattersons and Tracys will vault past them.

In other news: Merced plays near the cliff's edge, too, while Lincoln steadies itself with a win over West Park. Oakdale falls out of the top-10, replaced by former assistant Jason Stock and East Union. Too harsh on the Mustangs?

It is with a heavy heart and deep gratitude that I announce the passing of another coaching legend in our community. Karl Finch, my father, passed away last night. He died the same way he lived, showing us the way with dignity and strength. The football/sports community has lost another incredible athlete, coach, friend and mentor. He will be missed by all of us.

Behind them, though, the order is less certain. Edison flinched for the first time all season, Manteca snapped its two-game slide, Tracy and Patterson continue to ascend, while Merced, Lincoln and Oakdale fall back.

Suffice to say, there is a lot of movement in this week's power rankings. How would rank the large school pool? Is your favorite team too high or too low? Is there a team we need on our watch list?
