Celebrating 40 years of service to the Modesto community!

I would like to recognize my colleague and friend, James Allen Gammon, MD, for an extraordinary milestone—40 years of serving our community here in Modesto as an ophthalmologist.

For the past several years, Allen and I have shared surgery days at Valley Surgery Center, and they have always been days I looked forward to. His positive energy, intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, and genuine zest for ophthalmology are remarkable, especially after so many years in medicine.

Allen is also a veteran, an academician, and a steadfast patient advocate. He is a central figure in Tom Harbin’s Waking Up Blind—the book we are holding in this photo. At a difficult time, Allen had the courage to raise concerns and advocate for patients when doing so was neither easy nor popular. It is a compelling story and, in my opinion, a must-read for anyone in ophthalmology or medicine.

Allen, thank you for your friendship, your integrity, and 40 years of extraordinary care and service to the Modesto community. It has truly been a privilege to work alongside you—and thank you for making our surgery days together something I always looked forward to.

Celebrating 9,000 Days of Tasha ❤️

After nearly 25 years—and an incredible 9,000 days—we say goodbye to someone who has been an important part of the story of our practice.

Tasha joined us in January 2002, before Modesto Eye Center was even Modesto Eye Center as we know it today. Over the years, she has been there through new offices, new technology, LASIK, countless surgeries, tremendous growth, a pandemic, and more changes than any of us can probably remember.

But the years and milestones tell only part of the story.

Tasha has cared for generations of patients, formed lifelong friendships, watched coworkers come and go, and became part of the fabric of our office. Along the way, we also watched her own life unfold—from babysitting my children many years ago, to getting married, to becoming the mother of twins.

9,000 days is more than a number. It represents loyalty, dedication, friendship, shared memories, and a remarkable chapter in all of our lives.

Tasha, thank you for nearly 25 years of service to our patients, our practice, and our community. You leave behind many memories, many friendships, and a legacy that will remain part of Modesto Eye Center for years to come.

We wish you happiness and success in the next chapter. You will always be part of the MEC family. ❤️
