I know we’ve been talking a lot about birds lately, and you might be wondering WHY... aside from the silly “early bird” pun opportunities (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Turns out native birds are quietly doing a lot of heavy lifting for the circular bioeconomy right here in the North San Joaquin Valley:

🐛 Natural pest control: Birds like Western Bluebirds and swallows eat their weight in crop-damaging insects, cutting down the need for synthetic pesticides in our orchards and fields.

🌸 Pollination support: Hummingbirds and other native birds help pollinate crops and native plants, adding another layer to the pollinator network our ag systems depend on.

🌱 Ecosystem & soil health indicators: Where you find diverse, thriving bird populations, you often find healthy soil, functioning waterways, and land management practices that are actually working. Birds are basically nature’s report card.

Our feathered neighbors are just as much a part of building a circular, regenerative Valley as compost, biochar, and everything else we usually talk about.

We’re proud to introduce the newest cohort of BEAM Circular Community Ambassadors! We’ve partnered with Valleyonward to expand the Ambassador program to Merced County. Valley Onward is an incredible local organization dedicated to cultivating leaders in the Central Valley. Part of that work is supporting Promotoras in Merced County. These Promotoras are our newest Merced County Ambassadors!

Who are Promotoras and why are they so important? Promotoras are trusted advocates and leaders, rooted in the communities they serve. They are the bridge that connects families with vital resources through culturally relevant outreach and education. That trust is earned through years of showing up for their community by translating and educating, doing home visits, and running workshops. They work overtime to make sure the communities they serve don’t fall through the cracks.

As Community Ambassadors, they’ll bring the circular bioeconomy home to their own neighborhoods, helping residents see what a growing bioeconomy can mean for good local jobs, and healthier and more sustainable communities.

We’re so excited for the Merced Community Ambassadors to learn, engage, and share about the circular bioeconomy!
