This console table started out as a classic walnut shaker side table I asked my husband to build me. I was going to put it in my office right beside my desk. The legs turned out awesome, except they were a little too high, like the height of a console table. So we did what we always do, we adjusted and made something new. We combined the elegant shaker legs with a live edge top. I thought it made a nice juxtaposition. We happened to have this beautiful slab of Ambrosia Maple, which we placed on top of the legs. From there, we made some bow ties to shore up a crack along the live edge. Then we used another strip of the live edge as a stretcher to stiffen up the base, making this console table incredibly sturdy. I love all of the visible joinery showing the contrast between the walnut and the maple. It’s incredibly beautiful yet incredibly understated. I was tempted to keep it for myself but we decided to add it to our booth instead. This is one of those pieces that grows with you and holds onto your family memories until you ultimately pass it down to your children. I would love to see where it ends up.
