All branches of the Monroe County Library System are closed today, June 19, 2026 in observance of Juneteenth.

We join in the celebration of culture and history that commemorates the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, bringing freedom to more than 250,000 African Americans still enslaved in the state.

Join the Bedford Branch Libraries on Mondays this summer at the Monarch Waystation (in front of the library) for 'office hours' in the garden. Learn about different types of butterflies, caterpillars, and plants. We will observe and discuss the roles these have in our ecosystem.

Join the Frenchtown-Dixie Branch Library and share in all the fun ways to enjoy Pokemon cards! Bring your cards to trade or play with others. We will have some basic Pokemon card decks for those who are just learning to play the game. All ages welcome.

Heads up, friends! All branches of the Monroe County Library System will be closed this Friday, June 19, 2026 in observance of Juneteenth.

This day celebrates freedom, culture, and history. It commemorates the day that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865, with the news that more than 250,000 African Americans still enslaved in the state were free.
