This is why getting a full home inspectionโespecially going up into the atticโis non-negotiable! ๐ซ๐
During a recent roof replacement, roofers covered over an old roof pe*******on, which can be fine in certain situations. But in this case, they snapped off the active PVC plumbing vent pipe, roofed right over the hole, and left the pipe lying down flat inside the attic.
Why this is a major hazard:
Sewer Gas Exposure: Instead of venting safely outside through the roof, hazardous sewer gases (like methane and hydrogen sulfide) are releasing directly into the enclosed attic space.
Moisture & Mold Growth: Plumbing vents expel warm, moist air. Dumping that moisture into an unconditioned attic creates ideal conditions for wood rot and mold growth on ceiling joists and decking.
Health & Safety Risks: Inhaling sewer gases over time can cause headaches, nausea, and foul odors that pe*****te down into the living spaces.
Always ensure your roofers maintain proper venting for all active plumbing stacksโand never skip the attic inspection!

Now this is what we love to see when we pop up into an attic! ๐ท๏ธ๐ฅ
While home inspections often uncover maintenance issues, every now and then we spot a gold-standard setup worth celebrating. During a recent inspection, we found a gas line manifold system in the attic with individual shut-off valvesโand every single line was clearly labeled for each appliance (dryer, fireplaces, etc.)!
Why a labeled gas manifold is a major win:
Emergency Preparedness: If you ever need to turn off gas to a specific appliance in a hurry, you don't have to guess or cut supply to the whole house.
Simplified Maintenance: Servicing or replacing a gas dryer or fireplace is effortless when you can isolate that line individually.
Pro-Level Craftsmanship: Organized, labeled utilities are a sure sign of a home thatโs been cared for with attention to detail.
