Confused by SIBO or IMO? If you've been looking into digestive symptoms, you've likely seen these terms. Here is what they actually mean:
--SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth): An abnormal increase of bacteria in the small intestine.
--IMO (Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth): An increase in methane-producing microorganisms in the gut.
Because these symptoms overlap with many other GI conditions, getting a proper medical evaluation is essential.
💬 Conversation starter for your next visit:
"Could SIBO or IMO be relevant to my symptoms, and how would that be evaluated?"

Imagine experiencing intense nausea and repeated vomiting that lasts for hours—or even days—then feeling better before another episode happens later.
This recurring pattern can occur with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS), a disorder characterized by episodes of severe nausea and vomiting that come and go over time.
CVS can affect children and adults and may significantly interfere with everyday life.
If you or someone you love experiences recurring episodes of severe nausea and vomiting, keeping track of when episodes occur, how long they last, associated symptoms, and possible patterns can provide useful information to discuss with a healthcare professional.
💬 Conversation starter: What would you want your healthcare provider to know about your vomiting episodes?
📌 Save this post if you're learning about CVS for the first time.

Most people experience heartburn from time to time. When symptoms happen repeatedly or interfere with your life, it's worth having a conversation with a healthcare professional.
GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, occurs when stomach contents repeatedly flow back into the esophagus and cause symptoms or complications.
Symptoms can vary from person to person.
Understanding your symptoms—and how frequently they occur—can help you communicate more clearly with your healthcare team.
🗣️ Try asking:
“Could my symptoms be related to GERD, and what should I know about managing them?”

Constipation isn't simply about how often you have a bowel movement.
It can involve stools that are hard or difficult to pass, straining, or feeling like you haven't completely emptied your bowel. For some people, constipation can become a persistent problem that affects comfort, routine, and quality of life. If constipation is ongoing or concerning, talk with a healthcare professional.
📌 Helpful information to track:
How often you're having bowel movements, what your stools are like, whether you're straining, and whether you feel completely empty afterward.
The more clearly you can describe what you're experiencing, the better your healthcare team can understand your concerns.

GI symptoms can look very different from person to person. You may be experiencing abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, changes in bowel habits, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, feeling full quickly, or another symptom that is affecting your everyday life.
Sometimes symptoms are temporary. Sometimes they persist, return repeatedly, or begin interfering with eating, sleeping, working, or social activities. Understanding what you're experiencing is an important first step.
TIP: Start by paying attention to your symptoms, when they happen, how often they occur, and how they affect your daily life. Then bring that information to a healthcare provider who can help you determine what may be causing your symptoms and what steps may be appropriate.

Gastroparesis Awareness Month may be coming to an end, but awareness doesn’t stop here. Gastroparesis is .
It’s more than the symptoms people can’t see. It’s the missed meals, difficult days, canceled plans, uncertainty, and the constant effort it can take to manage life with a condition that others may not understand.
This month, we’ve raised awareness, amplified patient voices, and reminded our community that what you can’t see can still have a profound impact.
To everyone living with gastroparesis: We see you. We hear you. We believe you.
