Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who came together to help our nation respond and heal. We will never forget those who we lost or the bravery of the heroes who answered the call.

Illinois House Dems continue to fight for a responsible and affordable future. Our latest fiscally and socially responsible budget has earned Illinois its 11th credit rating upgrade since 2021, and brought us to an A1 rating—achieving our highest ratings in nearly 15 years.

As we celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week, we want to recognize the hard work of our teachers and faculty. According to the Nation’s Report Record, only one state outpaces us in 8th grade reading scores, and only four states outpace us in 8th grade math scores, and we’re dedicated to moving forward.

126 years ago today, after a decades-long suffrage movement, women across the country earned the right to vote. Today and every day, we recognized the dedication of the women that came before us, as well as the continued fight for gender equality in the U.S.

On August 22-23, 1791, in what is now the Republic of Haiti, an uprising that would lead to the eventual abolition of the transatlantic slave trade occurred. Today, we remember all of the lives lost on the transatlantic trade route and in enslavement across the world. We must continue the work to abolish human exploitation, and ensure every American and Illinoisan is free.
