Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families who still carry that loss, and the first responders, service members, and everyday people who showed extraordinary courage in the face of tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, we remember. We honor. And we pray.

Father,
Today we pray for every family whose life was forever changed by the events of September 11. Bring comfort to those who still grieve and strength to those who carry memories of that day.

We thank You for the courage of first responders and all who ran toward danger to help others. We pray for those who continue to serve and protect our communities and our nation.

In a world that can feel divided and uncertain, help us choose compassion over hatred, unity over division, and love over fear. Give our leaders wisdom, protect our communities, and use each of us to bring hope and peace to the people around us.

May we never forget those who were lost, and may we honor their memory by loving our neighbors and caring for one another. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Sunday’s message, “Trade Your Hurt for Healing,” reminded us of something we all need to remember:

Only God is God.

Churches are filled with people. Pastors are people. Leaders are people. Volunteers are people. And people, even those with the best intentions, are imperfect. We misunderstand. We miss things. We make mistakes. Sometimes we say the wrong thing, fail to show up, overlook someone who needed us, or unintentionally leave a wound behind.

That doesn’t make the hurt any less real.

But our imperfections should lead us toward humility, not defensiveness.

When we discover that our words or actions have hurt someone, one of the most Christlike things we can do is listen. To be willing to say, "I may not have intended to hurt you, but I hear that I did.”To own what is ours to own, ask forgiveness when necessary, and make every reasonable effort to make things right.

And when we are the ones who have been hurt, we have to remember this:

The people of God are not God.

People may disappoint us. God remains faithful.
People may misunderstand us. God knows our hearts.
People may fail us. God never stops being God.

Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”

God does not ask us to pretend the wound never happened. He invites us to bring it to Him so it no longer controls what happens next.

Peter failed Jesus beside a charcoal fire, but Jesus later met Peter beside another charcoal fire. He didn't bring Peter back there to humiliate him. He brought him back there to restore him. The place connected to Peter’s greatest failure became the place where Jesus reminded him that his story wasn’t finished.

That same grace should shape the Church.

We should be people willing to forgive, people humble enough to apologize, people courageous enough to have difficult conversations, and people committed to reconciliation whenever reconciliation is healthy and possible.

Because none of us gets everything right.

Only God is God.

So when people fail, don’t confuse their failure with His character. And when we are the ones who fail, may we have enough humility to admit it, enough love to address it, and enough grace to make things right.

Jesus doesn’t just heal what happened to you. He restores what can still happen through you.

Trade the hurt for healing.
Trade defensiveness for humility.
Trade bitterness for forgiveness.
Trade the past for what God can still do next.

The crowd is not the Christ. People are imperfect. God is faithful. And grace still has the power to bring us home.

Maybe the reason you stopped going to church… happened at church.

You trusted someone. You were hurt by a leader. You felt judged, overlooked, betrayed, or forgotten. And somewhere along the way, it became easier to stay away.

This Sunday at NaplesChurch, Pastor Paul continues our TRADING PLACES series with a message called:

TRADE YOUR HURT FOR HEALING

We’re not going to pretend church hurt isn’t real or that what happened didn’t matter.

We’re going to talk about what happens when we finally allow Jesus to meet us in that hurt.

Because the people of God may have hurt you, but the people of God are not God.

And the place connected to your pain doesn’t have to remain the place you avoid. God can rewrite what that place means.

Maybe this Sunday is your Sunday to walk through the doors again.

Maybe it’s time to come home.
