Pompeii and Herculaneum have preserved extraordinary fragments of Roman life 🏺

Here's a selection of remarkable finds from the Vesuvian world: the Pompeii riot of 59 depicted in mosaic, Pyrrhus of Epirus from the Villa dei Papiri, the monumental tomb of Gnaeus Alleius Nigidius Maius, and a Samnite gladiator helmet from the Pompeii gladiator barracks.

Each object preserves a different piece of the people, spectacle, and daily life of the ancient cities.

September in Ancient Rome meant one thing: the Ludi Romani🏛️

Held in honour of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, Rome’s greatest games grew into more than two weeks of festivities, running from 4th - 19th September.

Before the games began, an extraordinary procession made its way from the Capitoline Hill, through the Roman Forum and into the Circus Maximus. Magistrates, musicians, dancers and athletes took part - and even statues of the gods were brought along to watch from seats of honour.
