Maybe balance isn’t something we find.
Maybe it’s something we practice.

Because what I need today might not be what I need tomorrow.

There are seasons when growth asks more of me.

More courage. More discipline. More discomfort. More willingness to do the thing I’d rather avoid.

And there are seasons when continuing to push isn’t growth at all.

It’s depletion.

That’s why I don’t think balance can be reduced to a perfectly divided schedule or equal attention to every part of our lives.

It’s much more responsive than that.

**Can I notice what this moment is asking of me—and respond accordingly?**

Push when it’s time to push.

Recover when it’s time to recover.

And stop treating either one as evidence that we’re doing life wrong.

🌿 **Reflection:**

Which comes more naturally to you right now—challenging yourself or allowing yourself to recover?

We can know exactly what matters to us and still find ourselves living out of alignment with it.

That’s part of being human.

There are responsibilities we don’t get to opt out of. Seasons that demand more from us. People we care for. Bills that need to be paid. And sometimes we’re simply operating from patterns we learned long before we ever stopped to ask whether they still fit.

So a values check isn’t meant to become another way to judge yourself.

It’s an opportunity to get curious.

Because there is a difference between “This matters to me” and “I’m intentionally making space for what matters to me.”

And I think that’s where the idea of balance gets interesting.

Balance isn’t giving everything equal amounts of your energy.

It’s knowing what matters enough to receive it.

Sometimes that’s working hard.
Sometimes it’s lifting something heavy.
Sometimes it’s being fully present with someone you love.
Sometimes it’s saying no.
And sometimes it’s lying still long enough to hear yourself breathe.

The balance will change #

The values underneath it don’t have to.

🌿 Reflection:

If you looked at where your energy has gone over the past week, what would it tell you you’ve been prioritizing?

And does that match what you want to prioritize?

No judgment.

Just information.

SelfAwareness

08/01/2026

Some of the ways we spend our energy are obvious.

Others are so familiar…
we hardly notice them anymore.

Every commitment.
Every obligation.
Every “yes.”
They’re all investments of your energy.

The question isn’t whether saying yes is good or bad.
The question is:
Is your energy building the life you actually want?

Awareness isn’t about becoming more critical of yourself.

It’s about becoming more intentional with the life you’re already creating.

🌿

Reflection:
Where has your energy been going lately?

And does it reflect what matters most to you?

I don't think we talk enough about the ways we quietly spend energy.

Not the obvious things.

The invisible things.

The conversations we replay in our minds.

The boundaries we know we need but struggle to set.

The pressure to be everything for everyone.

The constant search for one more book, one more podcast, one more answer—as if healing is something we can consume instead of something we practice.

Sometimes exhaustion isn't asking us to become more productive.

Sometimes it's simply asking us to become more aware.

Awareness isn't the finish line.

It's the place where meaningful change begins.

✨ Reflection:
If your energy could speak today...
What would it ask for?

I'd love to hear your answer below.

We often think we need more time.

More hours.
More motivation.
More discipline.
More willpower.

But sometimes the deeper question is:
**Where is my energy going?**

Because energy is a limited resource.

Every thought we replay...
Every conversation we carry...
Every commitment we say yes to...
Every worry we give our attention to...

It all receives a piece of us.

And the truth is, not everything deserves our energy.

This isn’t about doing less or becoming less ambitious.

It’s about becoming more intentional.

It’s about asking:
🌱 What is helping me grow?
🌱 What is keeping me stuck?
🌱 What deserves more of my attention?

This month, I’m exploring the idea of Grounded Growth—the balance between effort and rest, challenge and recovery, action and reflection.

Because growth doesn’t come from constantly pushing.

It comes from learning where to place your energy.

Where your energy goes, your life grows.

What is one thing you want to intentionally give more energy to this month?

One of the most compassionate shifts I’ve made—in my own life and in the therapy room—is realizing that resistance isn’t always sabotage.

Sometimes it’s protection.

Our brains and nervous systems are designed to keep us safe, not necessarily to help us grow.

Which means that even the changes we’ve hoped for can feel unsettling at first.

A healthy relationship can feel unfamiliar.
Rest can feel uncomfortable.
Speaking up can feel selfish.
Receiving support can feel vulnerable.

That doesn’t automatically mean you’re moving in the wrong direction.

Sometimes it simply means you’re walking into territory your nervous system hasn’t explored before.

Growth isn’t always about feeling fearless.

Sometimes it’s about taking the next small step while your body is still learning that it’s safe to do so. Be brave.

Have you ever noticed yourself resisting something you knew was actually good for you?

Most of what we call “healing” doesn’t look dramatic.

It looks like small interruptions in old patterns.

Choosing to pause instead of react.
Choosing to slow down instead of push through.
Choosing presence over autopilot.

It’s not always impressive from the outside.
But it changes everything on the inside.

What’s one small shift you’ve noticed in yourself lately?

For a long time, I thought healing was a destination.

A place I’d eventually arrive once I had enough insight, enough discipline, enough confidence, enough self-improvement.

But over the years, my understanding of healing has changed.

Less fixing.
More curiosity.
Less perfection.
More participation.
Less asking, “What’s wrong with me?”
More asking, “What’s possible from here?”

Turns out many of the things I thought would heal me were actually attempts to avoid discomfort.

The things that truly helped often required me to move through it.

What did you think would heal you that ultimately didn’t?

I’ve spent a lot of time over the years trying to understand why people do what they do—including myself.

And one thing I keep coming back to is this:
Most of us aren’t struggling because we’re broken.

We’re struggling because we’re using strategies that made sense in a different season of life.

The coping mechanism.
The defense.
The relationship pattern.
The belief.

At some point, it served a purpose.

The question isn’t whether it was helpful then.
The question is whether it’s helpful now.

As I reflect on another trip around the sun, I’m reminded that growth often isn’t about learning something new.

It’s about recognizing what you’re finally ready to outgrow.

What’s one pattern, belief, or habit you’re learning to leave behind?

Mental health language can create awareness.

But awareness alone does not automatically create change.

Healing also requires:
🧠 action
🧠 discomfort
🧠 accountability
🧠 nervous system work
🧠 practicing differently in real life

Insight is the beginning.
Not the finish line.
