We had some fun with ‘It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse!’ 🎃🐭
As Mouse paints different faces on the pumpkins, we made the same faces in the mirror! 🪞
This is such an easy way to talk about emotion vocabulary and match the facial expressions while reading. You can talk about how each pumpkin is feeling, what features on the face give us clues, and even make your own silly/scared/happy faces.
For little ones, you’re also sneaking in lots of language practice by modeling words like happy, sad, mad, scared, and surprised and talking about who, what, and why as you read. 🎃📚

One of my favorite parts of this age is listening to all the little phrases that come out of their mouths 😩🥰💬
At 2 years old, we’re looking for children to begin combining words to communicate, rather than relying mostly on single words.
And those combinations can serve SO many different purposes. Kids might use words to:
💬 comment: “Sissy sleeping”
🙋♀️ ask for something: “More crackers please”
🆘 ask for help: “Help me open”
❓ ask questions: “Where Mommy go?”
👀 label or describe: “Big truck!”
❤️ share something interesting: “Look, doggie!”
🚫 protest: “No bath!”
You’ll notice that the examples in this carousel vary in length. My son is putting together some longer phrases right now, but that doesn’t mean every 2-year-old should be speaking in 3–5 word sentences. These are meant to show examples of different word combinations.
And remember, language development isn’t just about how MANY words your child says. We also want to see them using those words for different reasons and purposes throughout their day. 💚
Save this one for a little reminder of what word combinations can sound like in everyday life!
Speech-Language Therapy Leaf Hunt 🍂🍁
I love a good fall or holiday theme for my speech and language activities!
This week we’re going on a leaf hunt with:
📖 We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt
🍂 A sensory bin filled with hidden wooden leaves to find, sort, describe, and compare/contrast
🍁 A leaf hunt card flip game for articulation practice, vocabulary, action words, sentence building, and more!
I also made a FREE leaf hunt printable to go along with it! It includes the leaf hunt language page, 2 pages of /r/ targets, and one page of blank cards so you can add your own targets and use for the leaves.
Parents: this leaf hunt is a great activity for your preschooler!
Want a copy? Comment LEAF below! 👇🏼 It’s also available on my TPT which is linked in my bio. Make sure you’re following me so I can send it your way! 🍂
The leaves are from Hobby Lobby 🍂🍁
How I’m using these fall Hobby Lobby sticker sets for following directions practice!
With my 2 year old, I gave him simple 1-step directions like “put the bird in the sky!”
With my 3 year old, we focused on spatial concept vocabulary words like “between, next to, and above!”
Stickers are always super motivating and a great fine motor activity 👆🏽
🗣️Speech Therapy Activity- This week we used wind up toys with Super Duper® Publications cards. The child had to say the word that the Halloween creature landed on!
This would be fun in a group session with each child getting a different wind up character 🎃👻
My clients loved this activity!
