"There beneath all the thinking and doing, you are at peace." -Tamara Verma

Join us in a class this weekend to recognize the peace that is already within you. The yoga practice is a way to uncover and recover the sense of self that lies dormant as you strive to meet goals and perform. When you give that a rest, and when you can rest, peace emerges truthfully and completely.

It is time to honor the sacredness of what feels unfinished or is in process. The breath that is out of rhythm or a pose that feels wobbly is not a failure, it is actually a tender space of becoming.
This week we accept the invitation to a practice that is taking shape and the process that wants to be discovered.

When we desire something in the practice, such as a new skill, it is a human tendency to meet what is missing with a sense of urgency. In a rush to change the circumstances, it is tempting to fast-track progress by resisting the work that is necessary to step fully into a new space.

What if we met what feels unfinished with tenderness instead? This week we explore the beauty of what is still in process, still forming, still becoming. We can explore this space with a curious and open heart, and reframe a sense of lack by seeing what is already there instead of what is missing.

Through the weekend, we integrate what we have learned about allowing a variety of sensations be a part of the practice. The last part of this work is recognizing that we have to choice to manage what arises with intelligence. This takes space and inquiry, as we decide parts of the practice support us, and which parts are ready to change.

“A waiting person is a patient person. The word patience means the willingness to stay where we are and live the situation out to the full in the belief that something hidden there will manifest itself to us.” ― Henri J.M. Nouwen

This week: Persistence

As we practice with persistence, we get curious with sensation instead of labeling it as good or bad. We may ask, Where does it begin? Does it move? What happens when breath meets it? When we stay with sensation, we learn to unbrace and allow the soft, steady attention that allows sensation to unfold rather than intensify.

This week: Persistence

At first, yoga can feel difficult and uncomfortable, but eventually the practice teaches us to be curious about the sensation that is arising. Staying with sensation is the practice of not abandoning yourself. When a new sensation arrives, our instinct is often to fix it, judge it, or move away from it. When we are persistent enough to stay, we realize that sensation is simply the body speaking in real time.

"Yoga can re-educate the body and bring back suppleness.  When tensions leave, the body goes back to its original state and balance is re-established.” -Vanda Scaravelli

Let your body express its inherent beauty and grace with us this weekend. Your yoga mat is a place to rebalance and rediscover the parts of you that can feel lost. The breath is the compass, so that even when we seem lost, we have never lost our way.

Expansive awareness that brings clarity to the distal parts of the body, such as the hands and the feet, can be just as profound as an awareness of the core. Distal activation creates proximal organization, and the center responds to how we hold energy throughout the entire body. Basically, no aspect of our awareness goes to sleep during the practice.
The breath can liberate our focus, as we receive information from every sheath of the body without overwhelm. Join us for the yoga that is a deep and necessary study:

You need to remember your Buddha nature and your social security number." -Ram Dass

To walk the path of awareness that yoga illuminates, it could feel like we are living a double life. While we remain committed to the development of our compassionate awareness, the world spins on chaotically and unpredictably. Yoga does not reconcile this for us or ask us to turn away from our worldly responsibilities. Yoga helps us support the split in our attention, and shows us that we can hold whatever arises in the moment. We can learn from the past and anticipate the future, and as our intelligence develops through yoga, we can act with awareness and not be overwhelmed with analysis. This is buddhi, or the intellect that formed through practice, which radiates through all aspects of our lives.
