Some of the most remarkable discoveries begin with something familiar.
For Gerd Günther of Germany, that was a chicory flower growing in his own garden. His winning microscopy image transforms its pollen-covered stigma into an intricate composition of spirals, textures, and color, revealing a level of complexity that's easy to overlook with the naked eye.
Awarded the EMEA Regional Winner title in Evident's 6th Annual Image of the Year competition, Gerd's image reflects a lifelong curiosity about the natural world and the remarkable patterns that emerge through the microscope.

When you're working with structures only a few tens of nanometers thick, every imaging decision matters, including how you handle the sample.
Dr. Elliot Cheng, PhD student Lachlan Hanrahan, and Professor Arkady Fedorov, at the Centre for Microscopy & Microanalysis (CMM), The University of Queensland, are using laser scanning on Evident's LEXT™ OLS5500 3D optical profiler to image superconducting Josephson junctions, capturing 3D surface detail from nanoscale structures without putting delicate samples at risk.

Primary cilia may be tiny, but their impact on brain function and psychiatric disease is significant.
🔬 This video made with Evident's APEXVIEW APX100 benchtop fluorescence microscope captures the dynamic changes of primary cilia in real time and successfully visualizes the ciliary tip release phenomenon. A cell line of human retinal pigment epithelial cells stably expressing MCHR1-EGFP (green) was used.
Our latest blog explores how advanced imaging of primary cilia, using Evident’s APEXVIEW APX100 benchtop fluorescence microscope, is revealing critical insights into cellular signaling pathways linked to psychiatric disorders, opening new avenues for neuroscience research.
